Why is it that our government spend money on a particular defense aircraft show that violates the skies every summer? I was on my way to the saturday market when i nearly hid under a desk upon hearing the threatening rumble of a fighter jet roar over the Halifax penninsula. It was seriously frightening!and sickened me to think that while some people are actually living in war zones, these warcrafts are parading about our skies boasting our military might. Its ridiculous and unacceptable to burn jet fuel just for the hell of having an airshow.

  1. fucking liberal hippie douche bag!

did the big noise scare you? Find any good hemp at the market on Saturday. Harden the fuck up !

PS – It was a fly by done for a military service at parade square.

  2. Thaty same plane is the one that will protect your ass should some Islamic idiot decide that he is going to hijack a plane and crash it into your building. Moron. Overreact much?

  3. Canada’s Military Might????
It’s nice to see the Military in Halifax, not only for the defence of the country, but also we’d be royally fucked without the $$ that the military spend here and in the surrounding district.
You’re some pansy-arsed, granola eating, bike riding, barista banging, bus ranting toss bag.

  4. Bobby that comment about Muslims takes the cake on your idiocy, bud.

Muslims aren’t cowards or terrorists like Zionists and fundamentalist Christians are and were.

  5. Nice goin’Fat- relax my friend. The last time I checked it was Muslims who orchestrated 911. If you look at my comment and the context you will see that it was in referance to that particular attack. There are enough terrorists out there of EVERY religious stripe, I was only referring to one instance.

  6. Yet still no proof that a group of fundamentalist Muslims sitting in a cave pulled-off 9/11. Good job. Keep hiding behind Wolf Blitzer’s skirt, bud.

  7. The majority of terrorist attacks today are from extremist Muslims… not Zionists and fundamentalist Christians.

  8. i guess it’s called flexing military muscle(that we don’t have, by the way). and aren’t you glad we don’t live in the u.s., where they are nothing but a war mongering civilization. check out all the wars on earth in recorded history, and you will find that the u.s. wereactively in them, in some form or other. they just love sending people and kids to die for their ideals. holy jihad, no wonder they are attacked and not canada.

  9. 1749 was when NS and Halifax had a law that made it legal to kill Mi’Kmaq. That helped too probably.

  10. Hardly anything glorifying about seeing 90 percent of Canada’s military assets (consisting of 30+ year old “jets”) fly over grand parade on a sunday afternoon -if anything its depressing. If we ever faced a true threat on our home front what will we do? Throw beavers and cat by-laws at them? Maybe Adam West can modify his cat launcher to launch cat by-laws instead…

  11. Air shows have developed an overtly militaristic side, I agree. There should more general aviation/firefighting aircraft/ search and rescue etc ALONG with a select number of military planes…but with LESS emphasis on the destructive power of a tiny percentage of aircraft in Canada.

I was disappointed to read a few years back that when planes were grounded, the military wheeled out some cannon and rocket launchers as substitutes..allowing the little ice-cream-smeared skin-head kids to ooh and ahh over them…

Really, that’s not an airshow, it’s just to draw in the chicken-hawks to flex their muscles vicariously through what they perceive as Canada’s military “might”…

Bring on the hot-air balloons, photo-planes, skydivers, ultra-lights and gliders, and ditch some of these obselete old military aircraft, any one of which would be shot down in minutes by the most junior Israeli pilot anyway…

  12. um, Life Sucks, recorded history goes back alot farther than the us does. I know the Americans are pompous Arse picks but if they hadnt hopped the pond last century to help us out, we might all be leiderhosen wearing, sausage making master racers. I for one am just glad we arent on their shit list.

And OP, really? If your’e scared of a fighter jet, I’m fairly certain you wouldnt like the sound of an RPG or a roadside bomb going off, so dont harsh on the things that help to keep you safe.

  13. So, according to “Life Sucks”, the US of A was directly responsible for both the First AND Second Punic Wars? Shake your head you history-blind dipwad.

  14. “check out all the wars on earth in recorded history, and you will find that the u.s. wereactively in them, in some form or other”

wern’t they the ones who put an end to Alexander the Great’s campaign ?

  15. In the US’ short 245 years, they’ve been at war for most of them. Their little contra missions and “support” of other nations is included.

  16. I don’t understand what you are getting at, though I’m sure it makes sense to someone.

The fact of the matter is the Halifax’s founding and history has always been linked to the military.

Maybe of the St.Lawrence Seaway didn’t exist it would be different for Halifax, but thats the way it goes.

Read Raddalls “Halifax: Warden of the North” sometime. Its a pretty easy read and informative.

  17. Used to wake up every morning in Cold Lake around 6 am with 18’s shaking the Quonset hut. What would an air show be without military aircraft? Where is sex in an Airbus. I wanna see the sex.

  18. Sparky- agreed. I grew up in Miramichi a mile from the CFB Chatham airport where the old Voo Doo jest took off at all hours of the night with afterbruners kicking in and shaking the house. One little jet flying over Hfax Harbour should not be enough to cause someone to dive under a desk unless you have severe anxiety issues.

  19. @ NGF

I don’t claim to know what going on in the middle east, but what the Taliban has done to Afghanistan and is doing to Pakistan and parts of India is wrong. I consider them terrorists because they kill and manipulate innocent civilians through suicide bombs and scare tactics. They are also extremist Muslims.

I’d say the US, Israeli and Canadian military are not terrorists because they don’t purposely target civilians, though it’s not that is doesn’t happen by accident. In any case, that’s debatable. You can label all countries at war as terrorists if you want.

But those youtube videos you watched that suddenly made you informed aren’t in the least bit credible, so stop acting like an authority on the subject.

  20. The Taliban isn`t the only group that “manipulates innocent civilians, through scare tactics”, friend… just like the frightened panty-waist conservatives that repeat the mantra “we fight them over there so we don’t have to fight them here”

It’s BS. Canada should mind her own business and stop trying to change a culture that predates ours by millenia…you want to help Afghans? Then stop refusing them asylum, you right-wing hypocrites…

  21. “…don’t purposely target civillians….”

Ha, riiiiiigghhhhtt………. Keep watching Fox News and CNN, BF. They’re always more credible than ….. anything.

  22. So NGF, have you gone to the war? I haven’t. Have you?

I don’t watch Fox news, or CNN by the way. Like I said, I don’t claim to know that much about the war, but you seem to do. So what are your sources?

  23. And Canada never went to war in our short history either. The following never happened:

    Crimean War
    Boer War
    WWI
    WWII
    Korean War (oops Police Action)
    Viet-nam (Yup Canadian content)
    Gulf War I
Balkans War (or another Police Action)
    Afghanistan

And I’m sure I missed a few. Not to mention exchange personnel and also equipment that Canada has sold.

Sorry folks, Canada contrary to popular belief, is a military country.

  24. Don’t bother Bastard Fish, all of these conspiracy loving, military hating asshats have their misinformed opinions and are too blindly stubborn to argue with. Let them boil in their own negative stew and they’ll eventually evaporate.

  25. NGF, people are tired of hearing crack brained conspiracy theories. I guarantee whichever sensational website you get your information from is probably less credible than FOX and CNN. Just on the other side of the pendulum, still crap. 9/11 “truthers” are the worst.

  26. That’s fantastic, GM, however not every “conspiracy theory” is a conspiracy (or alternative) theory. And its been going on long before 9/11 ever happened. If you’re content to listen to the Bush Administration lie and make it up as they go along, that’s fine by me. However, when evidence and their “reports” do not add up, I fail to see how its a “conspiracy”.

Also, how are ‘we’ “conspiring” against anything or anyone? What do we gain from “conspiring” or having an alternative opinion about the subject?

I’m a graduate in anthro-soc/political science and a graduate in public relations. Not everything in my learning curve is from a “conspiracy” site, but I do love how people just write off the alternative as “conspiracy” and leave it at that. Instead, I prefer to do my research into the subject and listen to credible sources who have (at least) a PhD or X-amount of years experience in a particular discipline.

Its a lot more fun than listening to the government and media tell me what is what.

  27. to say that face to face I’d have to be face down on the sidewalk shit faced….. oxy rules

  28. Well, being white trash you’d already be discarded and stuck to the sidewalk 😉

I admire your brilliance by taking cheap shops like a cheap troll when someone disagrees with you.

  29. NGF the sheer amount of quotation marks in your comment is enough to not take it seriously but I hate truthers so much Ill humor you. Its ricidulous when you say that you and your band of government conspirators have nothing to gain from your theory. How about book sales, interviews, lectures last time I checked all of those stood for a profit. You embody the reasons I hate your kind with your “Oh I have a degree and interpret world events by cutting out newspaper clippings and reassembling them on a cork board in my basement to find patterns” bullshit. The architects and scientists who have given rational explanations that refute every truther claim all have degrees too. Everybody is naive and gullible except you, mr “oh why would they lie, what do they have to gain from this” right, right your critical thinking skills are so above the average citizen.

  30. and why do you even respond to that racist crap? its not worth the effort stop fueling them

  31. I have two degrees; you use “ricidulous” as a word. Or maybe that’s just your way of “humouring” me.

  32. My husband helped build a school in Kandahar. One of my dearest friends defused IED’s with his bare hands so that Afghan children wouldnt become pink dust. I know why were over there. I dont give a flying monkeys anal gland what you asshats say about our presence there because because of my friends and husband, little Afghan girls are being eduated in a country where they werent allowed to exist without permission from a man not 10 years ago. Theres a long way to go but I have faith. a journey of a thousand steps….

  33. NGF could have 10 degrees but I still wouldn’t give him any credit. Not understanding the basic concept of selling an idea is ridiculous, sorry.

  34. Nice try, GM. You’re still not proving me wrong or “discrediting” me. However, in your mind you probably have all the credibility by merely creating a screen-name.

  35. I responded to your lame question of ‘What do they have to gain”. We now understand WHY crack brains make crackpot theories, for money. Nothing else you said was concrete enough to respond to, you just appealed to the authority of your degrees (which at this point I dont even believe you have) and likened every rational 9/11 theory as perpetuated by the Bush Admin and therefore wrong.

  36. You’ve still failed to mention any of your sources. Popular mechanics vs nothing is looking pretty good.

  37. Jesus christ, Dino, I’m asking myself the same think.

He’s a bit on the ornery side today, isn’t he?

  38. Even if the fuel tanks on the aircraft didn’t blow, the towers couldn’t take that amount of weight on them (in excess of 400,000 lbs in a space of a fuselage of about 200ft and a wing span of about 170ft) concentrated in a relatively small area.

As for the government wiring up the towers, just talk to a demoliton expert how impossible it would be to do in secret plus the amount of time it would take.

A little common sense goes a long way.

Hell ten guys couldn’t keep Watergate secret for fuck sake.

  39. It was neither a good idea or necessary to fly an aircraft directly over a city full of people at such a low altitude. It’s possible to have a lovely and meaningful ceremony in a way that pays tribute to the honorees and does not disturb/scare the bejesus out of thousands of people.

  40. The altitude of the aircraft was over the minimum altitude set by Transport Canada. This is strictly enforced by both civilian and military authorities.

  41. Hey NGF- please do not bore us with how many “degrees” you have. Why is that even relevant? I have a Commerce Degree (I know it is not as glorious as a degree in Political Science) and an MBA. What difference does THAT make? It makes me no better or no worse than anyone else on this board. In fact I know people with a grade 8 education that would make more sense than some of the posters on this board. Now, if you will excuse me, I am going to go back to watching the video of the 911 attack. When I watch it in slow motion I am pretty sure that I can see a Democrat or Republican in the cockpit holding a gun.
Oh, and by the way, I do not watch Fox or CNN. Go figure.

  42. LOL, I should have known. You didn’t even post any sources. I bet you drive around the city on your bike a paste those ‘9/11 was an inside job’ stickers on all the stop signs.

  43. I love the airshow. The military has always been the driving force for aircraft technology & even people who aren’t military enthusiasts should appreciate the speed and maneuverability of these planes. It does not “glorify war”. The market’s fun too – especially how it’s the earliest place to get beer and wine on Saturday.

  44. According to “Nice Goin Fat,” ‘Muslims aren’t cowards or terrorists like Zionists and fundamentalist Christians are and were.’

Can’t speak for fundie Christians, but … Zionists are cowards and terrorists? News to the people who built Israel 60 years ago. News also to the folks at my synagogue.

Watch out, NGF – there are Zionists among you!!

  45. Bastard fish, you claim most terrorist attacks are committed by muslims? What about when Bush bombed the shit out of Iraq? Or when Israel bombed civilian infrastructure, hospitals, power plants, a dairy plant in Lebanon during the last war. Brutality and disregard for civilian lives comes from ALL sides, not just the ones CNN and FOX tell you are “terrorist”.

  46. But the Israeli military don’t strap on suicide bombs and bomb their own people. And yes civilians do get killed in war, on both sides. Destroying infrastructure is fair game, if not a necessity, in war. No power accomplishes a lot, along with roads and factories.

  47. Just because they don’t strap on suicide bombs doesn’t mean they haven’t committed avoidable attacks against targets where they know civilians will be killed. Ask a person in a village if an F16 fighter jet dropping cluster bombs is less scary than a suicide car bomber. I can assure you, the dairy plant that was bombed was not a military target, it’s just sick punishment against the Lebanese civilians to prove a political point through violence. Terrorism is terrorism any way you slice it. War in most cases is full of terrorist acts on top of legitimate military objectives. To me, 9/11 was an utterly disgusting and uncivilized act, just as the recent Iraq war was an act of terrorism on Iraqi civilians.

  48. I disagree, Bro Tim; the IDF has committed many attrocities against both Palestinians and Israeli Jews as well. it doesn’t seem to matter to them. The IDF doesn’t have to use suicide bombs when it has a fully operational defence force with army, navy and air force to launch its weapons.

Also, I’m just familiar if you’re familiar with the Ergun? They committed many bombings against other Israeli’s with the intent of blaming it on Arab militants.

Sleehah – Israel is a fake state that I’ll never recognize. That does not make me anti-semite or racist either. I refuse to acknowledge it because of its history of stealing it by force from Palestine. Realistically, who did Israel declare its “independence” from; England?

The people who created Israel were and are still full of shit. I’ll take Benjamin Freedman over anybody at your synagogue.

Most of the Jewish people I speak with don’t recognize Zionism or the concept of “a Jewish homeland” as it never truely existed.

  49. I’ll tell you what. We’ll have all the military and police lay down their weapons. Happy now.

  50. 1749 was when NS and Halifax had a law that made it legal to kill Mi’Kmaq. That helped too probably.
