There are so many people living with illnesses that are affected negatively by scents. That’s why government buildings are scent free, that’s why many public buildings like universities and gyms are scent free, that’s why it’s actually against the law to wear scented products in a health office, clinic, or hospital in NS. Please realize that not only is that stinky stuff you bathe in and slather all over yourself putting at least 30% of people (not even including asthmatics and elderly) at risk for extreme in some cases life threatening allergic reactions, you’re also paying a mint to kill yourself slowly. The chemicals and ingredients in your perfumed deodorant, body spray, shampoo, laundry detergent aren’t regulated and are proven time and time again as dangerous to your health linked to a variety of illnesses. So if you absolutely must cover up your insecurity over your own BO with some spray you think will have the girls crawling all over you (you know unscented deodorant works just as well right?) be mindful of those of us going into a place marked “Scent Free” expecting to not die from an allergic reaction today, thanks. —Why the Heck Do You Think We Have a Whole NS Clinic Dedicated to Enviro-Illness?

I have a theory that people who have their bodies saturated with inner rage issues or emotional traumas have little tolerance for stimuli inthe world. They become sensitive.
I don’t wear scents and I don’t it like when others over do it. Now let me get the politically incorrect ball rolling by saying that I think the vast majority of people suffering from environment illnesses are whiny full of shit lazy hypochondriacs. And coincidentally, it’s usually people who have jobs with nice disability leave plans. Fibromyalgiacs – flame away.
Not just Bullshit, I’m calling Farking Bullshit on this “stat”, pull from someone’s scent-free asshole.
is that your dog snubiz? nice teeth
Blah, blah, blah, SCENTS, blah, blah, blah… NEXT.
I like it when people smell clean. Not bathed in perfume. But I will defend to the death your right to wear them! I’ll just step away…
Um, not quite the right quote, but meh.
Wearing deodorant with a light scent, or having recently washed your hair with SCENTED shampoo (do they make unscented shampoo???) is COMPLETELY different than spraying your body with perfume or cologne….
If you don’t like my Dove SCENTED pitstick, you can go fuck yourself and live under a rock somewhere.
LOL @ it being “against the law” to wear scented products in hospitals.
sweaty armpit is a scent…shall we start removing everyone’s arms ?
how is unscented any better than scented in not slowly killing ourselves ?
Seeing as our enviorment is getting more & more polluted. Let’s give those with stronger genetics an edge by allowing those who can’t survive to go the way of the dodo.
You can’t live forever, so if your that sickened by our enviorment, why not check out now.
Save our hospitals money (cause your no longer sucking up resources.
Save us food, self explainitory
shorten lines for those who need assistance so they can be back in the work force faster.
Yep , a win win situation.
I even have a green idea to go along with it. Remember all those telphone booths, that you could open the bifold door & go inside. Bring them back as suicide booths. check in & push a button. your enviormental & scent problems are now solved ~;)
Nope. Not mine. I just love that crazed look!
I agree with More. If you can’t handle the stench, time for you to check out. Buh Bye whining smelly bitch.
Stop putting so much hand sanitizer and using endless cleaning products on your children. The end.
Hear hear Donk!
Good luck with people listening to scent free lol.
Unless one was confronted by the owner of a business or security to wash the scent off or leave then people will continue to use scented products.
I like those people who supposedly have environmental illnesses or other such breathing issues who smoke. They refuse to change their lives the slightest for their own health but expect everyone else to. There is someone at my work with a massive fucking list of health problems including a lung disease who smokes any time the boss turns around. They also eat a ton of processed shit and vending machine garbage then run to the bathroom with stomach cramps and ruin the bathroom for anyone else who needs to use it in the next hour or two. While these people exist, I refuse to give a shit about anyone else’s health except my cat’s.
This wanker should be made to travel on every bus route, especially the ghetto rambler routes, accompanied by the welfare stroller ho’s and spawn who’ve run out of diaper $$ cos they spent it on drugs. Breathe in deeply, in and out, in and out…..
I’m sure if you got what you wanted, you’d be the first to bitch about BO. Either that or you HAVE BO. Either that or you’re a bloody hypocrite.
I’m going to wear deodorant. You’re going to deal with it.
To quote a famous sign at one of the best cafs in the city “Allergic to peanuts? We serve them here. Eat somewhere else”
and before you mouth off at me telling you to stick your sense of delicacy up your ass, i also suffer from environmental allergies friend. Yes. Scent is annoying. That’s why i get up and move if someone who stinks sits too close and it bothers me.
It’s not about the world changing to meet my needs. It’s about me learning how to take care of myself.
OB, go put on a gas mask if you’re so sensitive to the environment. People don’t want to smell repulsive so they bath and use products that have a scent. I couldn’t care less about those with sensitivities…….Darwin would say “Sucks to be them.”
I find that as I am getting older, I am becoming more and more sensitive to chemical smells, such as those found in cheap cologne and some cleaning products. Scents made with essential oils do not bother me (except for patchouli).
I have not worn perfume or scented deodorant for several years. I hate it when someone drenched in quelques fleures or axe shares the elevator with me or when I am dining and the table next to me is cleaned with window cleaner or when a smelly diesel truck pulls out in front of me.
I’m not the OB, but y’all need to BO Back Off!
In grade school, democracy was defined like this “Your right to swing your fist ends where my nose begins” Well, your right to drench yourself in ‘some flowers’ ends where my sense of smell begins, dig? You’re saying I should stay home? Fuck that noise! I shouldn’t have to smell you from 10 feel away!
Wow! I thought I’d get chewed up and spit out for that! Great comments! I wonder how many working people who don’t have paid sick days have “environmental illnesses”? Zero-ish?
It doesn’t keep me from my job, Snubz, it just makes my nose itch, my eyes water and my mouth say bad words.
my olfactory system works too well, but i have learned to live with it http://ihasahotdog.files.wordpress.com/200…
Oh – you don’t strike me as a whiner Xeno! : )
“a Whole NS Clinic Dedicated to Enviro-Illness”
AND NOWHERE ELSE IN THE WORLD CONSIDERS IT AN ILLNESS! GET OVER YOURSELF! ONLY IN NOVA SCOTIA!!
lol
There is no such thing as unscented deodorant. That would be antipersperant. That is all.
Mea Culpa, Teege
o.p., there is scent, and then there is stink. when one crosses the line, it becomes offensive to some around you.i’m not saying everything or one stinks, or overdoes the perfume, oderant thing, but some really reek. was on a 52 bus the other day, and this guy smelled like he swam in some type of shit. it started gagging not only me, but a lot of others as well. needless to say, the windows came open in a hurry, and bus vent went on.people, for fuck sake, give a little respect for others, that might not like your fucking oder from whatever.
if you can’t do that, then stay the fuck off the buses. i would rather smell a cunt, on the rag.
while it sucks… it’s ostensibly undeniable that a great many people would rather take 5 seconds to spray the living shit outta themselves than take a 5 minute shower.
Including both those that aren’t accustomed to the common practices and traditions of Canadian living…
and the lazy fucks that are and just don’t give a shit.
Whats a good chemical free under arm deodorant/antiperspirant? Anyone?
febreeze?
purel?
aloe?
last night’s leftover pizza slices?
GV: try a natural deodorant stone. They are available at health food stores and bulk barn. You just moisten it and swipe your pits. Totally non-scented, works great.
Oc, does that actually work? its really a stone? what is it leaving behind?
I had a guy (most likely homeless, but had a huge wad of cash on him) come into my workplace and purchased something, the entire time i was processing his purchase i tried to hold my breath and not speak. The stench that he possessed was unlike any other i have ever smelt. It was awful. Showering with soap every day is a must, deodorant is definitely a must, and sometimes ONE spray of perfume. I definitely wouldn’t say thats “over doing” it. I would like to say I smell pleasant, as opposed to stinky, if i didn’t wear any of those 3 items i listed.
I would much rather smell someones perfume or cologne then smelling someones 2 day old smelly asshole, thank you!
While I do not have environmental illnesses, I do think one should be circumspect when it comes to chemicals in products such as paint or gasoline. Their fumes contain free radicals (those pesky unstable atoms that can turn healthy cells precancerous) and if exposed to them for a long period of time, it could spell trouble.
The smell of shampoo and deodorant can trigger an allergic reaction in some people but I think they should find a way to live with it, people who are allergic to ragweed and pollen do.
I’m convinced that at least 95% of that 30% are big fat fakers. Power of suggestion is a fucked up thing.
Also: I work in a ‘public’ building in one of the types of work places you describe, OB, and no one gives two shits about scents. In fact, my predecessor had a can of fabreeze air freshener at her desk up until she put it back in the board room yesterday.
I don’t know about everyone else, but I’m getting really fucking sick and tired of hearing all these “scent free” whiners whine all the damn time.
Perhaps you should invest in a plastic bubble?
If scents bother you that badly, wear a mask. You CAN get those that block out scents.
Why should the world rearrange our lives for some random strangers? Some of which are just big whiners with no real issue.
It’s not against the law to wear scents in public. Until it is I’ll keep using my scented body wash, scented shampoo and scented deodorant.
Also: scent-nazism only seems to be alive and well in NS. Many people I know from other provinces and other parts of the world laugh their asses off when I tell them about the whole “no scents makes good sense” propaganda around these parts.
NS really *is* a province full of big fat whiners. It doesn’t matter what it is, Nova Scotians will whine and moan and bitch their faces off.
People around these parts could even find a way to bitch about winning the fucking lotto jackpot, ffs.
prediction..10 yrs from now ..they’ll hardly be any..celiacs or lactose intolerant peeps..it’ll be some “new” discovery..
“I have an enchanting musk” – Homer Simpson
PK you’re right about the other part of the world thing … had never heard of this until I set foot in Canada. Would you believe I’d never known about the peanut allergy? Yup, that was also completely crazy to me (although I do acknowledge that is a serious one for those who are allergic).
PS I don’t know about scent policies, on one hand I understand but on the other, I wear deodorant daily with a scent and when I feel like it a spritz of perfume. Of course, also scented shampoo, body lotion I don’t do cause I like the super fast absorbing Lubriderm stuff and that doesn’t really have any discernible scent. Never had a complaint about smelling too “perfumy”. In a work setting I prob wouldn’t do the spritz of perfume just because I am in close proximity to people for long hours, daily life though, you know times where I can move away from you if need be, them meh.
I am SO glad we are whining about people wearing scented products in public. It means we are officially out of real problems.
Think there are a lot of peanut allergies or “environmental” allergies in Darfur? Probably not!
I’m also curious about this “natural deodorant stone”, OC. Do you know of any studies that have been done to determine its effectiveness, and if so, could you provide links to them?
Seriously Brend… you’re getting lazy.

Furious Styles – wasn’t it Smithers who told Mr. Burns that he had an enchanting musk, after Bret Hart complained about “Old-man smell”
1) The onus isn’t on me to prove or disprove someone else’s claims. 2) As to your sources, the fact that a site calling itself “Natural Cosmetic News” would tell readers to “go green” in order to avoid “harmful chemicals” is of absolutely no surprise to me. Though I will give them credit for actually examining the science and studies behind the ingredients in most deodorants, even though they don’t directly link to the studies they mention.
Org…I don’t rely on studies for proof on effectiveness. I know from personal experience that the stuff works. For me, anyway. Everyone’s body chemistry is different so it may be more effective on some than others.
GV…not sure what it leaves ‘behind’. I use it on my pits. Haha! Sorry couldn’t resist a little humour. The labels says “100% pure and natural deodorant crystal. Contains: Natural mineral salts, ammonium alum.”
Not wearing 100% polyester fabrics is also a good choice as those fabrics contribute to BO. Cotton, or a cotton-poly blend is much healthier.
Some allergies are from overexposure (mine for example). The other day at the store, I passed someone who was wearing a shit load of perfume. Just a couple of seconds and a couple of breaths, my eyes watered hard, head stuffed up, I really had to leave.
Lol – try tellng a Cop, your eyes are red and glassy because of an allergic reaction.

I love the Rexall ad that makes fun of places like shoppers that have the make up/perfume right by the door OF A PHARMACY.
Fer cryin’ out loud.
I will agree that that’s ridiculous.
I try to be mindful and I won’t wear perfume or put on scented cream when I’m going to work, but that’s as far as she goes.
I’d rather smell someone’s perfume than stale smoke on some gross-ass smoker.
Speaking of obnoxious olfactory odours (love aliteration) there was someone on the #1 on Monday who reeked of what I’d imagine 6 month-old unwashed asscrack would smell like. It was enough to gag a maggot! I changed seats. Poor bus drivers (nod to our very own PDG) don’t have that option.
And before some chimes in with “what do you expect on public transportation!”, let us keep in mind that bus riding was only a minute part of “stinky’s” day. How many other people were subjected to that stench over the course of the day(s)? When do people miss out on the very basics of proper hygiene when they are growing up? There is just no need for anyone to stink to that degree, much less to torture everyone else they encounter.
I’m just thankful “stench-butt” didn’t try to “mask” their fetid odour with perfume. Talk about making a bad situation worse! That works about as well as spraying air freshener to clear the air after dropping a load. Oh boy! Rose scented poo! Lighting a match burns off the dreaded fecal fumes. Totally the *only* effective method. Wouldn’t have worked for “stinky”-on-the-bus though. Ka-booooom! Instantaneous combustion!
is lighting matches on a bus illegal? nice alliteration chickpea
I’m pretty sure it is illegal sweet-pea-sis. And dangerous with those fumes in an unventilated space! Thanks for confirming what I suspected but neglected to check- there are 2 L’s in alliteration:)
i wasn’t sure either, that’s why i do spelling bees on the computer^^ zucchini and broccoli are always tricky
Tricky, but yummy when prepared right…hehe! It’s hard to think about food in this thread though.
