I am relatively young. I am baffled by these protesters all over the world, occupying city streets, protesting what they call inequality. Give me a break you iphone using, blogging, self righteous nuts. Go try on a life in Liberia or East Africa, or somewhere where there is real inequality. We have it damm good here. I am a struggling student and my government funds me and I am thankful and will work hard to make a contribution to society. You are all on Facebook using products these corporations you’re protesting produce. You wanna change the world? Try participating in it. Man I am glad our grandparents all had a sense of hard work, or D Day could have turned out real bad… suck it up and get an education and put in the sweat and tears and then you can have something. THe problems facing all of us are, can ultimately be placed at the feet of those who are running Wall Street, the Central Bankers & the IMF.
Plus Government allowing Speculators to drive up prices on goods we all need & buy. Like food, energy, . Allowing greedy assholes to buy futures on say Oil, but never having to take delivery on these ficticious barrels of oil (often they are still in the ground) means they don’t have to pay for ships , or storage, yet they are buying & selling, inflating this resource & the products made from it. By selling their ‘shares’ for inflated prices to those who actually need to buy it. Same thing with farmers crops .
THe Insurance scam that is forced on us by Governments where , you can’t own a home without home insurance, places now refusing to rent to you, with out content insurance.
Stock market manipulation so those who can, steal money from those who are only putting their RRSP’s into investment, that will never keep up with inflation ! If they invest in possible high/riskier futures, getting creamed by insider trading.

In my family of over 350 members here in Nova Scotia, have never had a house fire.
I’m over 50 years old, my grandmother is still alive, I have 12 uncles & aunts, that are her children still alive & yet none of us have ever had a fire incident… so why does just about everyone carry fire insurance ?
When my mortgage was paid down to the point that the dirt described in the deed, was now worth more than the mortgage, I cancelled all the insurance required by the bank.
They called me within 30 minutes of me doing so (because the insurance company called them ) & told me I had to reinstate the insurance or they would cancel my mortgage.
I made an appointment with the bank the next day , brought a lawyer , & told them I would sue them. You cannot force someone to insure a home, if the property is worth more than the mortgage. Because a house fire will not destroy the land. I then used the money I used to pay for each months premium for fire & death to down pay my mortgage principal, which along with paying the maximum each year allowed by all mortgage holders penalty free, got my mortgage for a 25 year term paid off in 10 years.
The Government , through lobbiests of Big Business, are passing laws that pick your pocket, enrich the banks (who own the insurance companies). & help keep all of us working longer & paying more so they can show ridiculous profits off our individual efforts.
Why do we pay such high interest (sure its lower now, but do you have any idea how little your savings earns ?) yet when you have money in the bank, they have always paid you a pittance for interest ! Yet your money increases their “assets” & allows them to lend based on 10 times (or more) what they actually hold !
So they are creating money out of thin air, & charging large interest on it (compared to what they pay investors AKA much lower rates) & then they double dip by charging you more to “insure it”
Basicly what needs to happen is the greedy on the the top 1% have got to pay their fair share to the rest of us.
Cutting services, medical, welfare, etc while these few top elite make bigger & bigger profits ,while we get bigger & bigger cuts isn’t sustainable & it is finally (way past time in my opinion) gotten people pissed to the point where they’ve had enough.

While I mostly agree with you, OB, there is one thing that doesn’t sit right with me. Just because we have it “relatively good here” doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try to change the inequalities and injustices (I’m not talking about this occupy movement) that go on. That’s like saying it’s okay to be slapped around because somewhere in the world, someone is getting it worse than you.

More- you just described the pension plans. They speculate on oil futures, grain futures, buy bridges and in Ontario one of the public sector pension plans owns the lottery in the UK. Another one owns a UK airport.
Greedy unions with unrealistic pension plans have pumped tens of billions of dollars into every speculative venture and safe bank they can find.
Not to forget the HRM pension plan which handed $47,000,000 to a Boston bank hoping the Yanks could beat the market. Unfortunately the bank gave the money to Bernie Madoff.

I am well aware of what is going on & the scam that is fractional reserve banking, the RRSP funds where the so called mamagers are risking the participants money on risky hedge funds & other bank manufactured ‘investment opportunities’.
The entire fiat monitary system is the reason why we have inflation, why a government & banks can manipulate it as they see fit. Deflationary practices all of the things you can do with invisible make believe money.
People called me crazy for cashing everything I had in retirement & stocks, & buying gold & silver bullion, purchasing property & paying cash for it, or when mortgaged making the maximum payments I could on top of my bi-weekly payments.
Real tangible assets, as opposed to numbers on a bank balance sheet or colored paper cupons ( some people actually think dollar bills are worth something & always will be)
Yet we know that the buying power of a dollar has dropped … shit it has dropped to half its value in the last 25 years. A dollar today has the buying power of 50cents in 1986 !
