As the title suggests.
The sea is unpredictable, and if you’re not careful, terrible things can happen.
Don’t be an idiot.
Be fucking careful.
There are already tons of warning signs posted everywhere.
More safety measures aren’t needed.
Respect the sea. —ocean lover

  1. THE CONCEPT OF “RESPECT”

If more safety measures aren’t needed, what do the tons of warning signs posted everywhere say? They can’t just say “Respect the sea” since some content must be given to the concept “respect.” How does one “respect” the sea? Is there any outward manifestation of such “respect”? Does one tip one’s hat? Does one genuflect on one knee?? Is this bitch coherent?

    A pleasure as always,

    Cheerio!

  2. I like to visit Peggy’s Cove but I’ve seen a few too many people standing too close to the edge of the water just so somebody else can take a dramatic picture. I’ve spoken to tourists posing themselves or, worse yet, their kids too close to the water.

One day I saw a young guy posing for his girlfriend. He was quite close to the edge. All of a sudden an unusually large wave came in and he found himself almost up to his knees in water while standing on slippery rock. Luckily he didn’t try to move until after the wave had gone out because if he had lifted one foot I think he could have been toppled over. The guy had been quite chatty beforehand but now he was suddenly speechless so he was obviously quite shaken by his close call.

So, yes, the ocean can be dangerous and a great photo isn’t worth the risk.

  3. Stupid is as stupid does. All the warnings in the world won’t stop people from thinking they’re invincible.

  4. ^^ Does one only respect the thing one fears?

Fear is an interesting emotion. I was told by a wise acquaintance that people spend the majority of the day solving real, potential, and imagined problems in their head. I believe that to be true. So, is fear simply a response to a problem for which one has not yet (or may never) find a solution?
