It absolutely enrages me that Gloria McCluskey proposed a name change for HRM! Where does she get the idea that spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to change all the stationery, cheques and everything else that has HRM printed on it, is worthwhile?
My initial reaction to her: “Please submit your resignation within 24 hours, as you have no place coordinating the direction HRM is run!” I think she is trying to make a name for herself, and has not made any worthwhile changes in her career!

To be fair, “Halifax Regional Municipality” is a super shitty name. It’s the worst and I hate it. I wonder if we are the only city in the world that can’t just be called “The City of …. “
OP, be happy it doesn’t mention “Spryfield” or “Sackville” in the name. Although if Gloria wants to rename places, she can start with those two: WelfareCentral and Wasteland.
The truth is, this bitch is pointless because the whole idea was shot down by the rest of city council. And besides, who the fuck cares, really? You can call it whatever the hell you want to call it. Officially it’s HRM but I just refer to it as Halifax. Just like it’s offically the GTA or Greater Toronto Area, or NCR or National Capital Region but 99% of us know them and refer to them as Toronto and Ottawa respectively. Yes, it would have been a costly waste of taxpayer’s money but it’s a moot point now. Quit fretting.

I doubt that one person in this “Municipality” would answer anything other than “Halifax” when asked where we reside/come from, regardless of what the official name is. As long as Halifax is in the title somewhere I’m sure we all could care less. Sure HRM is kind of a dorky title, but not enough so that we should spend a red cent to change it, no one but maybe those that work for the city would be effected. Someone making almost twice what I make per year should be smart enough to know that. Seems out of touch with her constituents.
