Working downtown, and listening to the loudspeaker booming from the top of that floating tour-bus is driving me nuts. It’s not enough that the bus spews diesel fumes and reminds me of Apocolypse Now, but they have to blast the loudspeaker to overpower the noise of the engines… If I have to hear “On the right is the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, also known as AGNES”, I’m going to puke.
Suggestion: add another speaker towards the back of the monolith, and turn the volume down.
Yay for tourism – nay for noise and air pollution.

I agree with this bitch, pretty much. That thing is fucking ANNOYING.
it is annoying but its for 3 months of the year suck it up!
That is *the* dumbest argument to anything ever, Jane. I mean, no offense or anything, but, if someone was being ass raped on a daily basis for 3 months of the year would you tell them to “suck it up” because it’s only three months of the year?
I know that’s a pretty unbalanced comparison, but I *hate* the “well it’s only for x amount of time so…stfu” argument. It’s pointless and accomplishes nothing.
and construction goes on around the city for 12 months. 3 months of talk over 12 months of jack hammering, etc. anyday!
OMG like if that’s your complaint, then don’t live any any city that has tourists. They do it in Boston, NYC, and other cities as well. Learn to make white noise in your head.
When I see that gawd-awful thing, I always wonder how many Viet Cong soliders it ran over during the Vietnam War.
Not only is it loud, but it takes up a lane and a half in most streets and moves slower than my grandmother driving home from church.
Strange, I don’t really find things like that irritating…
I find it harmless personally, at least until they yell RIBBIT!
That “monolith”, as you call it (I’d suggest ‘behemoth’ or perhaps ‘leviathan’), is moderately annoying, but then I don’t have to listen to or see it all day, every day. If I did, I’d probably want to see it sink in the harbour a.s.a.p. (All I really have to offer here is a more appropriate word choice…)
You think you got it bad. We’ve got the H.H. coming by our place EVERY day AND there’s a jackhammer going in the contruction site across from our apartment EVERY day. Oh and to add to all of that, this week there have been marching bands marching past our apartment every day around 10-11 ish so forget about sleeping in. (Note to self, I need to move)
My issue with the damn thing is the fact that they talk so damn loud. They don’t have to talk THAT loud. And it DOES take up more than one lane and DOES drive painfully slow. Aren’t there any laws against driving too slow and holding up traffic?
I dunno, it’s just one of those summer annoyances, I guess, and I suppose in the back of my head I’m always thinking “why the FUCK would anyone come to Halifax on a tourist vacation?” when it comes around.
I’m sorry, but I’ll take the intercom at Home Depot and highway sounds over that large pain in the ass any day.
You know they are loud when I can hear them from the 13th floor of my downtown office building with no open windows.
my dad works ont he tour bus
doesnt bother me!
C’mon what’s more fun than watching/hearing tourists buying into such obvious misinformation.
Be thankul we have at least one armoured vehicle to protect us. LOL.
agentjumpstreet – You’re right – behemoth is a much better word choice. I’ll remember it for the next bitch 🙂
