To go with “The 5c plastic bag rip-off”…

A certain-large-home-improvement-box-store-in-BLIP is now charging 50c for the thinnest bags imaginable. They’re so thin that is some areas there are holes because there’s not enough plastic used to actually make the things…

Given the few cents these surely cost them from their supplier, can’t they at least absorb this cost, particularly as anybody going there is likely dropping some serious dollars (I spend thousands there every year and I’m under no illusions that I’m a small-time landlord).

Even the folks on the check-out acknowledge that this is a cash grab – nothing more, nothing less.

  1. Just so ya know, Small-Time-Landlord, I held off the other two or three times you submitted this, because, as the posting page explains, if you got something to say about a bitch, or something to add, do it in the comments on that bitch, instead of adding a new bitch. Unless it’s been a week or something…

  2. I wonder what stores like this do to figure out what’s paid for and what’s not. It’s not like they “sticker” the items when you tell them you’d rather keep your 5 cents (plus tax). In the “olden days” if it was bagged it was bought.

  3. Why the fuck did you put your name as the title of this bitch?

Some people should be charged 50 cents for every breath of air they waste.

  4. “Some people should be charged 50 cents for every breath of air they waste.”

You are so funny…not. Fucking idiot. I am not the OP, I just hate the way you chime in.

  5. If said store is ripping you off, you find a new store and tell the old store why. Simple, effective, done!

  6. In response to this being from a store who now charges $.05 per plastic bag, we are actually absorbing the cost because all money collected from the $.05 charge goes to environmental and eco initiatives that our company endorses and embraces. We are moving to only having products from sustainable resources, dropped all chemicals from our garden products, and only use eco friendly suppliers who leave a small footprint from beginning to end of life for their products. Everyone is moving towards charging for plastic bags, at least recognize that not all companies are making a money grab and actually care about what they are doing while they do business. We also sell re-usable bags for which we DO make some money however we also donate to our Olympic and Paralympic athletes and support youth activities.

I’m sorry you feel like we’re ripping you off. This is simply another forward way we can take care of our world while still doing business.

  7. Tim: I started a new thread as I was hoping to get a bunch of people ranting about Home Depot’s policy, which I was then going to bring to their attention as pressure to drop the policy.

thebeardedonion: I don’t think I _did_ put my name as the title. That seems to have happened when the moderator posted my bitch.

Wyld One: My bitch is with FIFTY cent bags, not FIVE cent bags. The latter I can handle, the former – especially when I drop THOUSANDS of dollars at Home Depot each year (and I’m just a small-time operator) – I know is just a money grab.

Plastic Diver Guy: I _did_ leave a message for the Manager to contact me (I called last weekend). He chose not to respond to my message. Nice going Home Depot…

  8. Wyld One, tell us why you don’t offer a paper bag? Tell us exactly how many of those nickles go to environmental initiatives, how they are effective and then ask me if I would like to donate to it today? Now tell me that five cents means nothing to me (while you expect 50 cents should). Now you can go ahead and provide assurance as to what the government does with the tax they insist on charging over and above the nickle. Should we presume that money is saving the environment too and not really going into a severance package for the LOSERS? (am I ever mad about that) It’s MY money. It should be MY choice to pay for plastic or to opt for the FREE paper bags that might actually constitute a CUSTOMER SERVICE.

  9. “we are actually absorbing the cost because all money collected from the $.05 charge goes to environmental and eco initiatives that our company endorses and embraces.”

Tell me you don’t actually believe this load of crap they gave you? ALL of the money?? Horsefeathers!!! The bags are the higherst margin item at grocery stores these days.

  10. Kay…to make paper bags requires the chopping down our trees. We need to make Government get off their complacent asses & insist that paper products are made of something besides trees. Like Hemp (no not marijuana… HEMP ) it can be grown like the weed it is, year after year, you get a crop unlike the 20-30 years to grow a tree & it makes really great paper & fabric, the seeds give useful oil. There are better ways to make paper. cutting down even more trees for paper bags to help replace plastic bags…is IMO a higher level of stupid than we are presently at with plastic.

  11. you know how to fix their ass,buy something real expensive and breakable, then go off on the store manager.after replacing a few gran a week, the plastic bag bullshit will disappear forever there.i did it and fucken went berserk in the store, threatening to call lawyers and such.they will kiss your ass big time not to to court.

  12. STL: I doubt a bitch on here is going to get a multi national corp to change a policy such as this.

    Juss’ sayin’ 😉

  13. Okay okay, make them RECYCLED paper bags that originate from FSC stock. I’ve bitched many times about hemp (which is marijuana) setting the world free so let’s not go there on this thread, More. My point was the company opted out of an environmentally responsible (paper wins over plastic hands down) customer service solution in favor of polluting with plastic, turning a major profit margin and calling themselves “green” for doing it.
