Why the hell would your management book a Slayer cover band (which was awesome btw) then not allow people to mosh? Then our buddy the bouncer looked super scared when all the punk kids turned on him after he tried to force them out and his fascist macho bullshit didn’t work. What did he expect? If you want to support the local metal and punk acts in downtown venues then you have to support the regular people who go and see the shows too. Dipshits.
—This close to headbutting the bouncer.

Yeah, I see that a lot in bars around here though. It’s fucking stupid.
Ya..a mosh pit in a bar..that sounds sensible. I cannot understand why they would not allow that *rolls eyes*
Fuck that bouncer for doing his job…. Why would any bar owner want moshing in his bar? Think about it..
Hahahaha, the bouncer got afraid of punk kids. Was he scared shitless that you were all going to stand about 20 feet away making fun of his shoes or something?
Punks are the biggest dumbasses of all. Their level of entitlement is even larger than the average bar star (which is pretty fucking high already).
Honestly, OP, if you headbutted the bouncer you’d have about four more coming out of nowhere and at least two of them wrapping their forearm around your neck and choking the shit out of you.
Well… the bouncer can do his job for sure but do they have to be assholes? at one venue I got knocked down on my way to the bathroom and I got kicked out for the night.. Where is the fairness in this?
it happens! i’ve worked in bars before and seen people who were completely sober get asked to leave. its about appearance, perception and the actions of patrons.
the bouncer probably thought you slipped from being intoxicated.
AND – bouncers don’t have to “be nice”. they’re not ambassadors or diplomats – they’re on the job to maintain peae and order in the bar. as far as i know, no establishment would ever allow moshing – regardless of how many self-entitled “punks” feel its their “right” to do so. when you enter a bar, its like entering any house – you’re subject to the laws and rules of the establishment and/or owner; if you don’t like it, there’s the door.
even if you pay cover, its still a privilege and not a right. bouncers aren’t perfect, but patrons never will be either.
Who fucking “moshes” anymore? What a brainless activity…
I love my heavy metal. I do. But why oh why do you have to ‘mosh’ and thrash yourselves all over the place making it impossible for anyone else to even get close to the stage? And punks are the worst. They kick and punch and flail their limbs in every direction, there are others enjoying the show as well you know. I saw a guy thrshing about one night, and he turned around and randomly started shoving everyone else there. He shoved this chick and her boyfriend, who was like5 times this punks size, shoved him flying like 20 feet onto the floor. The bouncer was doing his job. Yeah they can be pricks sometimes, can you blame them? Having to deal with a bunch of adults acting like idiots. Their #1 priority is patron safety. Not your individual entertainment.
I guess the OP never heard about the word “liability”. It’s a nasty word that can ruin someone’s day. Say like a barowner who allows moshing and one of the idiots fall to the floor and spill their brains out. Not to mention the time it takes to clean up the brains, blood, and genreal mess.
Hey, I like anyone else in this fair city of ours, love going to the downtown bars to get kicked in the teeth by outrageous drink prices and crappy entertainment. Why aren’t we able to do it legitimately to some ass kicking Slayer music? Seriously though, I can understand bar staff not allowing moshing. God knows there’s enough danger in those places with testosterone filled jocks liquored up beyond recognition.
It was my first time at the Seahorse, and probably the last. No one should bash the bouncer, considering the fellow’s just doing his job – but the venue. The promoters’ should do a wee bit more research when booking a band like that. I mean, a moshless metal show? Wtf. Haha.
And I don’t think moshing is a ‘brainless activity’. People have their own ways of getting into the music. Headbanging, moshing, etc. I enjoy the occasional moshing though I do get annoyed when I get pulled in when I’m just trying to enjoy the show bruise-free, lol.
But despite that, it was pretty sweet show. Yay!
Exactly Purgatoryprince. Moshing comes with the metal and punk territory. That doesn’t mean getting pushed and pulled in by idiot’s is ok, but if your going to have a metal show at a bar, a little moshing is to be expected. I’d stick to a bar with the initials G. P for the small scene bar moshing. They are pretty awesome there.
It’s no more brainless then any other pointless yet fun activity either. If you don’t like that shit, then cool…but I don’t like going out and shaking my booty as a brainless mating call to other drunken men.
not a mosher myself i always get hurt
Bouncers dont have to be nice they just dont have to be an asshole
Moshing may be part of the music type and/or culture – I’ll agree with that, however a bar is a place of business and reserves certain rights. Its not that promoters or bouncers want to be rude to patrons, its a safety concern – like Jane D’oh mentioned herself. She gets hurt.
Thats why bars will not allow moshing. It will only be a matter of moments before someone gets pucked in the eye or nose or someone takes an accidental headbutt or two folks crack heads together. A business owner would be more concerned about potential law suits and fines rather than some punk kid being able to roll around with other moshers.
I volunteered for security at a Gobblefest show in CB about 15 years ago almost. The promoters did not want moshing at all because of the safety issue, but it happened a little bit. Near the end of the night, one kid was taken out for slicing his head open from an accidental headbutt.
Best way to avoid problems is to not let them happen or escalate.
If you’re going to a Slayer tribute show, you should know what you’re in for. For Christ’s sake. Toughen up.
I miss the days when the bar everyone’s talking about (which I think has already been named in a couple of comments, but whatever) was a total dive with drips coming off the ceiling and a glassed-in back room for smokings. I miss bars being fun.
Doesn’t matter if its a Slayer Tribute or Mini Pops Reunion – its a privilege to enter the establishment. If you want to mosh, do it at home. The bar doesn’t have to cater to your whims just because its a metal show. Smarten up.
Then just stay at the back, Fat. Problem solved.
I’m with you on this one Lang..mosh pits have become a sad thing of the past. The last remotely decent one I was in was the Bad religion concert not to far back..and that didn’t even come close to adding up to what they use to be.
I have heard the many good stories about this bar from peeps I know that use to work there. Unfortunately I did not live in Halifax for that time. The whole scene is going down the shit hole though if you ask me, and it is partially because of whining little babies that get a bloody nose and scream murder. Christ, get people to sign wavers or something before coming into these shows..
High five! I’ll see you at the next show, 1fallingangels1, and we can slowly fall and spill beer on each other – while smiling. Always, always smiling.
Hey Lang, that made me smile.
Pfft, I wouldn’t pay money to get into a metal show.
I wouldn’t pay money to get into a dance club. It’s a difference of taste…doesn’t mean one is better then the other.
And dam straight Lang! See ya there:D
Metal shows in hali are going down hill, people arguing about how mucy more metal they are then others…pisses me off especialy when they argue with me because im like…yes you are!!
but lang is right it was a SLAYER show therefore you know moshing is going down!
