For the love of GOD will the operators of motor vehicles please use their fucking SIGNAL LIGHTS when making turns! Mirrors & a simple shoulder check wouldn’t fucking hurt you either! As a motor vehicle operator & a biker, I’m getting fucking SICK & TIRED of having to veer out of the way of ignorant, lazy assholes who think that nobody else is on THEIR road. It’s not a common courtesy to indicate a lane change; it’s the fucking LAW. When will you get it through your thick skulls? After you KILL someone??? —Pissed Off Driver

OP, I think they’re afraid the car will explode if they do. Don’t bother getting out of their way, if they hit you, you win 🙂
Testify!
Absolutely, positively, hands-down, unequivically agree with you, OB. I can’t count how many times in the run of a day that I wish I was a traffic cop for this very issue alone. This is probably my biggest pet peeve and it seems that drivers in HRM are some of the worst offenders. I think this could fall under the Mel’s grocery store OBLIVITRONS. I mean, seriously, aside from it being the LAW, it takes all of literally 1 second to hit the signal lever and if your hand’s already on the wheel, you don’t even have to expend the energy to move your arm, just let it fall naturally and the weight and momentum of your limp appendage will do the rest. Christ, with most of the newer cars nowadays, all you have to do is nudge the lever a split second in the direction you want, let go and the signal will flash for 3 or 4 seconds automatically, self cancelling when done. Effortless. Drivers have got to stop being so fucking lazy and stop treating the roads around HRM like a NASCAR track. (Lord knows there are enough of the redneck fans out there, but that’s a different bitch). I can’t read your fucking minds and I’m not privy to what plans you may have with regards to where you’re going. Signal, Goddammit!
Apparently signal lights and mirrors are an option when purchasing a vehicle in Halifax. It baffles me why people don’t use them, it would certainly improve safety if everyone did this. Personally I use all of these aparati, not just for my benefit but for the benefit of others. I will say this though, not very many cyclists in this city use hand signals or follow the rules of the road. I don’t know if this is because they feel morally superior for being more “green” conscious, or just because they figure they don’t have to because they are not easily identifiable (ei; no lisence plates). Another common occurrence I see on a regular basis is cyclists approaching a parked car, whip out into my lane while I’m passing them and act all pissed off. This is in my opinion wrong, if you are being passed by a car, and your thrufare is blocked by a parked car, it is your responsibility to slow down or stop until it is safe to proceed. It also pisses me off when I see cyclists weaving in and out of traffic with EAR PHONES IN THEIR EARS. How can you possibly be paying attention? Also have seen cyclists using the sidewalks crosswalks when it pleases them as well. I would surmise this is a case of the pot calling the kettle black.Car drivers are not all evil, but people will always make mistakes so in the name of safety be aware of your surroundings.
“Don’t bother getting out of their way, if they hit you, you win :)”
Dear Hetero God please make sebastian follow his own advice just this once 🙂
I figure …if you can’t see the dark 6 ft wide, 6 foot high, 23 ft long pickup truck…you’ll never see its 6 inch by 6 inch lights !
Signage is pretty poor in this city. It’s hard to tell in advance whether your lane is a turn only lane or not (usually the paint on the road is faded or too close to the intersection). Major intersections are not always well indicated, so those not from here or new to the city might not be able to anticipate a turn. For these reasons I try not to be too much of a whiny bitch when it comes to signaling. It makes more sense to have some patience and wait a little longer if you have to.
That said, failing to use a signal in the middle of a lane change (not near a turn/intersection), or simply not using it because you don’t give a fuck, is quite annoying.
the signage is very poor in the entire province, but most folks don’t know what the symbols indicate…please for the love of the rotini monster, swivel your heads
How about the highway weavers. Getting nowheres fast.
I don’t have a problem with vehicles cutting my off all the time. OP, what the hell are you doing?
