Made up of Nigel Tinker (Joyless Streets), Mike D’Eon (The
Establishment), Matt Nichols (The Stance) and Niall Skinner (Their
Majesties), Bike Rodeo play a loud blend of 1960s garage rock and ’90s
Brit rock. D’Eon says, “It was the first band I was in where we just
jammed for a good couple months to find our sound.”

The band’s name comes from a guest speaker, Norbert Robichaud, who
D’Eon remembers visiting his elementary school. “He would go around to
elementary schools and talk to the kids about bicycle safety (and bike
rodeos). Nigel said we should call the band Bike Rodeo…(it) would be
a pretty funny band name.”

Determined to stay true to the organic process that began with the
band’s first practice, Bike Rodeo use no effects and forsook digital
recording in favour of analog tape at local studio Echo Chamber. They
recorded three songs with Charles Austin and Dave Ewenson that may be
released this summer as a short-run tape or a seven-inch. Expect a full
length in the fall or winter.

With a number of local shows under their belt, including a show on
July 10 at Gus’ Pub, Bike Rodeo plan to tour this summer. (MB)
