I’m no senior citizen but I have been feeling really old and crotchety lately. My major source of annoyance: teenagers!
My partner and I checked out the fireworks on Lake Banook and we were surrounded by teenagers… teenagers who screamed bloody murder for no reason in the middle of the show, teenagers who climbed up onto the roof of the canoe club, teenagers who shouted, “Johnny is a faggot!” in the middle of a crowd for no apparent reason… and every other word I overheard was “fuck”, “fag” and “bitch”.
Teenagers, why are you so disrespectful?! I don’t remember it being this way 10 years ago, so what the heck is up with you? If you were my kids I’d be ashamed! —27 Going on 80

Good, Good Young Skywalker. Let the hate flow through you and embrace the Dark Side.

if you don’t remember it being this way when you were a teenager either you don’t remember being a teenager or you didn’t get out much as a teenager.
Aaaand here we go again with the sweeping generalizations.
some things never change
lol teenagers? Immature? You’re crazy. So what, you spent your sweet 16 reading Shakespeare or something?
You can blame the teenagers or you can blame society that has brainwashed them and their parents for not doing a better job of making sure the media and pop culture doesn’t raise their kids.
There’s plenty of good kids out there that volunteer with the elderly and stuff like that.
“I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was, and what it is now seems weird and scary to me, it’ll happen to you too.” – Grampa Simpson
You probably don’t remember it being this bad ten years ago because you WERE a teenager. The perspective is quite a bit different as a teen and sometimes we have selective memory of our teenage years. Teenage brains have not fully developed and have less impulse control.
They have adult bodies but there is a lot of child left in there. It gets worse if they get into a group without adult supervision.
Not excusing the behavior or saying they are all like that but the group setting often brings out the worst in some.
Well said troodon4, my friends and I acted the same way, looking back we looked liked looneys but you don’t see it that way when your younger, you try being funny or loud, the rest join in and then it’s a game.
This, OP, is a condition older than time – IT’S CALLED FUCKING ‘ADOLESCENCE’!!!!!!!! Sheesh.
…and when you get to be ttfn’s age or mine, you can act like that again. this one’s for oceanchick http://www.thedailyquip.com/photogallery/G…
Easy answer: you were in Dartmouth. Fireworks in Halifax were silent and enjoyable.
Not every teenager is a douche, but obviously there are some dumbasses. And one of the first replies to this hit the nail on the head about the OP not getting out much as a teen.
I was walking up Victoria Rd the other day, and these teenagers whose parents look like they stopped caring were yelling racial remarks at any and all Asians that walked by them. I felt so bad, but the funny thing is that none of them even turned to look.
WTF is up with people on here sticking up for these little shits?
Being an adolescent doesn’t give you free reign to be an asshole. They aren’t a toddler who doesn’t know any better. They’re teenagers who know better but choose to act that way anyway because they’re undisciplined selfish sacks of shit. And they aren’t going to snap out of it if every adult is responding to their bullshit with “Oh well, they’re just kids”.
It’s not like they can’t help being douche-bags the proof is in the good ones: most teenagers I know are awesome terrific people who would never act like that.
Anyway I didn’t read this as OP claiming all teenagers are assholes, OPs talking about this specific group.
I honestly didn’t like hanging out with teenagers when I was one. So glad it has a finite timespan.
Teenagers now are a blight on our society. God, if my kids ever turn out like some of them, that are around. Iswear that Iwill put them down.A nd if not, well hubby is there for that reason. He hates what he hears and sees from these little punks. Where did the parents ever go wrong?
But to be fair, I guess a lot of this grief is the governments fault. They took away the right of parents to deal out any type of corperal punishment, so that in the end, we can do next to nothing to control them.
And some wonder why there is so much crime today, duh, take a look about you. I just hope the some polititions kid, doesn’t turn on them, and slit their throats. But maybe that would wake them up to the plight of us ordinary folks.Kids today, older ones, ae just disgusting in a lot of things they do, say, and no, i’m not 80. Just 37.
I don’t know, Snoop, I took what OP posted as ‘this group is just an example of what kids are like these days’.
Speaking for myself, I do not condone what that group was doing but leaving a group of kids unsupervised to their own devices often leads to trouble.
I was more taking issue with the ‘kids these days’ sentiment. I don’t teens are that much different from generation to generation. Technology and language are different but not the behavior.
I am the asshole OP. All I meant is that I felt like an old crotchety bitch on Monday night watching the fireworks because I was surrounded by shit-assed little 13-17 year olds who screamed non-stop throughout the entire fireworks display. I know plenty of great teenagers who are actual people I want to talk to…
Fully aware that the 50 or so kids that drove me crazy the other night do not represent an entire generation of teens.
We were all teenagers Peg, I doubt you thought of yourself as a blight back then. Teens push boundaries hard. Our society is quite free and open with those lines already pushed quite a ways so some teens have to be quite outrageous to be noticed. Yes, some parents are lax and there are some unique social concerns in todays society with the internet.
I still say every generation has lamented over their young people going back to the stone age and ten thousands years from now, it will be the same thing.
i never fit in as a teenager anyway, i liked my parents friends
Well, at least we know those punks aren’t from North Preston, Sackville, or Spryfield….unless they learned how to read a map in jail.
I remember when we were kids, and even young teens, every time we did something bad we’d blame it on “some teenagers” Worked every time
HAHAHA “kids these days”…. shit people’ve been saying this since the dawn of time.
I lived in some buttfuck town in the valley when I was a teen, and sure we could be obnoxious, but it was generally good natured. I don’t ever remember being mean or nasty or disrespectful. Plus my mom never let me “hang out” at the mall or other type places. When my friends and I went out it wasn’t to “hang out.” We hung out at our friends’ places and if we were obnoxious it was in the privacy of someone’s home. 😛
Seriously though, these little wankers pull this shit for attention, and they’re not the majority of teens out there. Nothing scares me more than a pack of teenage girls, but, in the end, I think it’s the ones you see out there trolling and “hanging out” because they have nothing better to do. Like the little shits that’ll hang out at the gym I go to — they had to put a stop to this shit and only allow those under 16 who were members in the fitness studio — these girls were there hanging around these guys (they weren’t working out — they were hanging out) with their blackberries and iphones, with full make up on, etc… yelling things like “well YOU ain’t eating MY pussy anymo’!” and “yeah, well if you want me to suck yo’ dick….”
They were just doing it for attention to seem “cool.” What they’ll realize in about 10 years is (if they don’t end up a welfare stroller mom, that is) they weren’t “cool” they were little fucking pricks.
OB, you should have told the teens that Johnny’s real name is Sebastian.
You are 27 and bothered by teenagers? lol. Get a life OP
