Biking around the city is a challenge at the best of times, recently I’ve seen a few folks on roller blades doin their thing. That’s cool, we’ve all got our thing, but please use the sidewalks and not the bike lanes, because they are just that… bike lanes, meant for bikes. When you are in my lane, being slow, I have to enter the next lane to pass you. So please take your dated form of exercise and take it to the sidewalks, or boardwalks, or whatever. Thanks. —Arrrrgh

share the road dummy,
Oh you want everyone to share the road with you but you don’t want to share it with anyone else?
Shut up, you are giving bikes a bad name.
you know what the hardest part of being a cyclist is?
Steering with one hand and balancing that big wooden cross with the other. >; )
j/k – My 2 wheeling bitch buds know I loves dem.
Are rollerskates are making a come back, or are these just welfare people who can’t afford a decent pair of rollerblades?
comeback because of the ladies derby league me thinks….
OP mentions blades though.
HOW IRONIC
I kind of agree with the OP on general principle. I don’t really think people with rollerblades/skates should be on the road. If you wipe out on the sidewalk, it’s not a huge deal because you’re probably not putting yourself or anyone else in danger. If you wipe out on the road, though, (especially on a busy street) there’s a high risk of you getting run over by a vehicle and either getting severely injured or killed.
when we had the bus strike, about 10 yrs ago, there were folks careening around on their rollerblades….it was quite the sight
fuck ya PG, I remember that. Good times
Jeez, the street sounds like a rough place to rollerblade :/ Are rollerblades permitted on the sidewalk?
Hills are totally hard on rollerskates/rollerblades, I can’t do it. I can barely climb hills on my bicycle.
nah, it’s all simple math

man, these are the batmobile of rollerblades!

Those are quite the wicked beasts. And also very shiny.
*peers over fence* Where’s Hugo?
i hope he’s doing something like this http://ia.media-imdb.com/images/M/MV5BMTM4…
*not exactly as illustrated*
Agreed, blader stay on the sidewalk or at least off of busy streets.
In terms of rollerbladers being at risk in the bike lane as opposed to the sidewalk, I would argue that bicyclers are at the same risk of harm if they take a spill next to automobile traffic. Ergo, I don’t see that as a valid argument to keep rollerbladers out of the bike lane.
I think this bitch should really learn to share in the same way they believe they have the right to expect pedestrians on the sidewalk to share by watching out for rollerbladers and steering themselves appropriately.
And for fuck sake, is this really all you have in life to bitch about? You sound seriously pathetic to me, like a whiny little bitch.
More substance, please.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. I love this. Cyclists getting bent out of shape when motorists complain about bikes on the road, but God forbid if a skateboard or roller skates use their precious bike lane. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
easy there big fella^^i saw a military cop on a bike pull some people over. i am in love
The thing is, the folks on the fruitboots *are* a hazard to cyclists, so should stay the fuck out.
At least we aren’t saying bullshit like ‘my taxes paid for it so get out’ like people in cars are apt (wrongly) to do…
Meh… Who cares deal with the inconvenience, because I never see cyclists on the side walk, weaving in and out of traffic and all sorts of other dumb shit.
Cranky, it is a fact that a significant portion of GAS TAXES pay for the building of new roads and the upkeep of existing ones. Pull your head out of your ass and at least try to research something before filling your mouth with both feet.
Rollerbladers/Skateboarders/Cyclist – all organ donors on the fast track.
Hey Steve, old buddy, I’m feeling a little lazy, would you mind doing some research for me and find out exactly HOW MUCH of that gas tax goes to the roads. I bet it will be informative for both of us. Thanks in advance on that one…
Also, I own a car and put gas in it, guess I’m paying for my share, eh?
I didn’t say you weren’t paying your fair share, just pointing out that your assumption that everyone pays an equal amount is flawed. The more gas you buy, the more you pay in taxes toward the road maintenance and construction. That does not include the money from the federal government for infrastructure renewal. So I guess next time dont make an I’ll informed comment.
Right now gas taxes are 42.785cents per liter are collected for infrastructure and maintenance, and on top of that HST is collected with the above tax included in the taxable amount. Pretty sweet… Taxed on top of a tax.
That also does not include what the truck and transport industry pay in road usage taxes.
SHITD:
You’re right that people do not contribute an equal amount in taxes to the building and maintenance of roads. That, however, shouldn’t imply that motorists have more of a right to road usage.
1) Roads are public goods, to be shared by those who need to use it (for transportation, commerce, whatever), including cyclists. And 2) even if cyclists did contribute less in taxes, their contribution to the wear and tear of the roads are minimal and as such they shouldn’t have to pay as much.
Remove all the cyclists from the road and put them into a combination of single-user cars and buses. Road maintenance fees will go up, and then motorists will bitch even more about road tolls, gas taxes and other fees going up.
I would also argue that cyclists are not willing to pay very much for the right to ride bicycles, especially given the lack of infrastructure. If, say, you tax bicycles or charge them a licensing fee, fewer people will choose to ride a bike. More will choose to drive cars. Again, you run into higher maintenance fees and gas prices because more people are driving.
All that said, I would be happy to pay significantly higher taxes and bicycle taxes and bicycle licensing fees if it meant we could have physically segregated bike lanes. But I doubt that will ever happen.
*groannnn*
Steve, a ‘significant amount of the gas tax’ goes to roads. Fair enough.
Where does a significant amount of the funding for road construction, infrastructure, and maintenance come from?
Canned. I did not imply that cyclists did or did not have a right to be on the road. As far as I’m concerned that’s great, less traffic on the road is better for all of us not to mention the lesser environmental impact. I agree with all of your statements. Unfortunately you put words in my mouth. All I was trying to do was say that cyclists do not pay a greater or equal amount for the upkeep and construction of roads as implied by cranky.
Cranky. Agreed there is an amount of just regular ass tax dollars that is allotted for roads and maintenance, I am not disputing that. Your statement was incorrect, quit being a penis and admit it was a stupid statement and the only way it could possibly be true is if all car owners are minimum wage earners and all cyclists are millionaires.
The irony of a bike rider complaining a skater goes to slow…has caused me pain in my chest !
Damn , I haven’t laughed that hard in a long time !
Steve, buddy, I don’t think I said that at all, maybe you read to much into my claim that was (I think) “People in cars think they only they pay for the roads and are therefore the only people with a true claim to use them”.
After you mull that over, please have a look into the tax contributions of both adult cyclists and (non-cycling)car owners. I think (but prove me wrong) that you will find that both groups contribute an equal amount to the pot that road construction etc. comes from. Just sayin’
Hmm, but yes, there are less cyclists than non-cycling car owners so in that way, I guess it could be said that as a group the car owners own the road.
This is a good one, lol
Donk – I’ve been kinda busy this last week, doing retirement things, yardwork, vehicle repairs etc.
Singing anywhere tonight? 😉
“vehicle repairs” *le swooon*
LOL, mainly singing in the car after work. Woke up at 3:30 am, so it’s gonna be a long day Sir.
