I know I’m not the only one bothered by that flash movie at the top of the page. You know, the one that fills the screen and blocks the menu and everything else the user came to look at? Did you hear that, Coast? BLOCKS-THE-MENU!!!
Advertise all you want but when the advertisement renders your site user-unfriendly, even for an iota of a second, your site is forever seen as user-unfriendly. Why not keep the ad in it’s ad space? I don’t need the thing to fill the page to know it’s there and that I’m still not interested.

Want me to call you a Waaambulance kay?
The site is free and we all know you spend more than enough time on it. Probably while you’re supposed to be working. Advertising is how the Coast remains free. If you don’t like it, feel free to piss and whine somewhere else. You won’t be missed.
The companies paid for that sort of
advertising, and it’s at the top of the
page, because it’s one of the most
effective places on a page to put
advertisements. It sucks, but the ones
who are probably interested in the ad,
will more likely click on it if it’s in an
appropriate spot on the page for them.
Seriously…ugh. This is something that goes on all over the internet. If you aren’t used to it by now, then I don’t know what to tell you.
Get over it….(playing a tiny violin)
Firefox …menu bar..tools…Ad-ons..Flashkiller 1.1 download and restart Firefox. Repeat only this time Flashblock 1.5.10. All free and painless. Get Adblock plus while yer at it 🙂
I bitched about this last week I think. I still feel the same. It’s a poor advertising strategy to piss off the potential customer. It’s not advertising in general that is the problem, it is advertising that interferes with the usability of the website.
Using adblockers as a solution may save me the headache, but it won’t result in my buying anything from an Ad I can’t read. If the ad isn’t reaching customers (because they are pissed off at its presence or because they block it) then the advertiser is wasting their money. The Coast is forcing people to block all ads by running the in-your-way ones. This won’t be good for the Coast in the long run because the advertisers won’t pay to advertise somewhere their message won’t be seen.
Overall, I don’t see how these Flash Ads are a good idea for anyone.
Thank you, Miles.
I don’t see why anybody here should assume that god awful fuck-you-if-you-don’t-like-it-then-leave attitude. THIS is exactly what I’m talking about when I elude to “Friendly Nova Scotians”
Any ads on the site that makes site content inaccessible is BAD. Simple. Miles said it better though.
Kay, I just have to jump in here- this is not the first time I’ve seen you write “elude” when you mean “allude.”
For what it’s worth.
*smile*
warms my day.
halifilm, you’re absolutely right. Thanks a lot.
Didn’t we go over this? ‘A-D-B-L-O-C-K’. Formats multiple browsers.
Ya we did Dino.
I need to start reading the comments before impulse posting.
I’d just like to say that this new tag made my entire fucking day.
Thank you, Coast. This bitch is thoroughly impressed.
I take it back. I thought the ad was gone but now it’s back. Too bad
umm last i checked, the ad only popped up when your mouse was over the ad at the top of the page
try moving your mouse, if that doesnt work.. youll have to just get over it!
At the top of the page you say? You mean right up there next to the Refresh button, Back button, address bar, my bookmarks and new tab buttons? It’s kinda hard to avoid moving your pointer over the Ad when you are on your way to all those other useful functions.
Not a big deal, I know, but it is annoying.
yes i understand what you are saying and yes it is quite annoying BUT.. it could be worse 🙂
Again, thank you Miles.
