To all of the DJs who faded away around 2002. There’s a reason. Your crappy trance doesn’t excite people anymore. Least of all your neighbours who get to listen at all hours. Sell your turntables and move on.

The title was supposed to read “Even clubs don’t want you”. Anyway. The only resurgence is the one happening in my apartment building.
There are maybe one or two DJs that still spin trance in HRM…and there hasn’t been a trance show in MONTHS.
DnB is the more popular of the genres.
The OP can’t even get his stereotypes/genres proper!
Drum and bass might be more popular, but it’s a fuck of a lot more annoying than trance.

PK – I don’t know. D’n’b is a lot less thuddy. Regardless, I don’t want to hear shitty music when I’m trying to eat, sleep, wank, etc.
NGF – My point exactly and that’s a long time in what used to be the city that hated d’n’b and loved trance.
Times have changed. People need to get with the program…before they lose the rest of their hair or look 9 instead of 6 months pregnant.
progressive has been popular and the “in-thing” for a while now. and prog is influenced a lot by electro and trance.
PK and I both picked up Kaskade’s newest called ‘The Grand’ and its too trance/prog influenced for my liking. Its a solid mix, but its not the same as House of Om or his live sets.
I quite enjoy The Grand….but I *will* admit I do have a liking for trance, myself, which NFG doesn’t necessarily share.
And I have to be in a club to listen to [most] house music (esp deep house) and really get into it (unless I’m on a treadmill, heh).
It all sucks when it’s all I can hear. CONSTANTLY. Cops have come. Landlord has been up to see them. Everybody around them bitches but nothing happens. Guess I need to find me an insulated house to live in cause that’s the only way I can guarantee I’ll only have to deal with the annoying self inflicted shit that bugs me.

Trance isn’t all boom boom. Would you rather someone who is blasting rap or R n’ B all night instead? I think you’d have a problem with anyone who blasting loud music at all hours, regardless of genre, The obnoxious idiots driving around with their giants subs aren’t blasting trance. You can hear them from across town and it’s the loud repetitive beat playing over and over. Anyone blasting loud music at all hours of the day is just plain rude and a major a-hole.
You should listen to DJ Danny D’s 5 o’clock mix on z103.5 (Toronto station, not Halifax one) and you’ll hear a good mix. Tune into him at 6pm AST and I believe they also replay him on Sat mornings as well. Give AVB’s a State of Trance weekly show a listen and you’ll hear really good DJs on there as well.
The lack of any trance music radio play in Halifax is so sad. When you’re in major cities around the world, the crowds love it and the clubs are very fun. Europe has so many huge clubs in Mykonos, Ibiza, etc.. that have live DJs spinning for hours. I think Carl Cox would be a good show for Halifax. It’s just too bad that people in Halifax are too musically narrow minded and only listen to Classic Rock (ala Q104) or Rap/Rnb ala Z103 or the Bounce. Same stuff played over and over without being progressive enough to play what’s heard elsewhere in the world. All they do is follow, never one to take the lead and play something that’s not already overplayed.
There’s a fine amount of trance, house, and disco one person can consume before their brain matter liquifies and they turn into amoebas. I’ve steered clear from that scene for a while, instead I choose to dissolve into my BFF’s -Broken Social Scene, Babyshambles, and Barenaked Ladies.
Trance, house, DnB – it’s what you do when you are utterly fucking useless at EVERYTHING else, from making a blade of grass whislte to playing the gazoo.
You’re right. I would have a problem with whatever genre it was. What I’m hear is boom boom boom trance, though. Regardless, people need to have some respect. Especially once they have a kid. But hey, maybe that’s what part of the problem is these days.
