I am SO sick of seeing lazy parents pushing their godamn 3-5 year old kids around in strollers. MAKE THEM WALK! That’s what their feet are for, or are you too selfish to bother walking at their pace instead of your own. Are you too much of a bad parent that you can’t let your child walk around without them being little shits? And people wonder why the child obesity rate is climbing, it’s because of lazy parents like you that would rather focus on themselves than the wellbeing of their child’s health. I bet you give them cookies and McDonalds instead of teaching them to prefer healthy snacks too.

  1. Oh hooo hooo hoooo! Judging by your moniker “My Kid Will Walk!” you don’t have a 3-5 year old….Buahahahaha I wish i could see your face or your poor 4 year old’s reaction after making them walk 30 minutes (heck 15 minutes) over a long distance. Kids can walk yes that is true…but their little legs don’t carry them far…they get quite tired and worn out. Do you know what happens when a 3-5 year old gets tired and worn out? No you obviously don’t…but YOUR child will walk right?

I don’t have children of my own but I have nephews (at that age group)…and I know the reality of the situation, you speak from a position of ignorance (not knowing, not arrogance as some believe ignorance is). You are in for some pretty interesting public tantrums if you think your kid is going to walk all the way down Quinpool Rd. or SG Road.

  2. I saw this HUGE kid in a stroller the other day at the mall. Kid was probably 3-4 and she wasn’t just regular baby-toddler chubby she was obese…yet her (also obese) mother was pushing her around in a stroller she didn’t even fit into anymore.

I can remember as far back as the age of two and I never remember being in a stroller. My mom told me she stopped using it when I turned 3. And she carted me everywhere on the busses and we did a lot of walking.

Parents are so lazy these days.

  3. It was probably one of those obese kids that was on Maury.

But to still be in a stroller is just crazyness! 4 year olds should not even use a stroller for any reason! It’s a sin to see children that age be over weight and out of shape. It’s definitley not the childs fault, that bad parenting right there!

    You mad? Or just bored?

  5. Mad? Bored? No…but you have to realize that not every kid in a stroller is there all day. Kids get pretty cranky after about a kilometer or two. Let them play somewhere they don’t notice the passage of time (playground) and they will go all day…make them walk down a boring street for 30 minutes and it’s an entirely different story.

I am curious where you get the notion to ask if I was mad or bored…my post was an honest one from real life observations. Do you have something to input or are you the one that’s bored or mad?

  6. Whenever I see parents with fat/obese kids, I make remarks about how the parents can always eat the kid if they go broke and homeless. Some kids look fat enough to feed starving countries ffs.

  7. Calm the fuck down OP, and consider the circumstances. My younger brother and I occasionally hung out in strollers until age 5. We were crazy little rascals. My mother worked the night shift from 11-7, 4 days a week, and was highly responsible. So what if she carted us around once in a while? How does that affect you? How dare you call my mother lazy, shame on you.

  8. I used to be best friends with a stroller and it died of cancer… how do you feel now?

  9. Eastcost: I remember complaining my ass off when I had to walk long distances to my mom because my feet would hurt…then she bought me a good pair of walking shoes with good support and it was all good.

I don’t think all mothers who use strollers with older toddlers are lazy, Dino, I agree with you there, but I definitely think that in most circumstances ALWAYS carting your kid around in a stroller and not letting them get some exercise isn’t cool, and judging by the number of obese toddlers out there, I’d say it’s more laziness than anything. I can understand where your mom was coming from: when i was little I was a pretty laid back kid so I my mom didn’t have to worry about me going crazy and she only had one kid…but, sadly, I think YOUR mother’s reasonings for you and your brother being in strollers until you were 5 are different than most people’s reasonings these days.

Childhood obesity has gone up 400% I think I read somewhere since 1984. This is a real problem that has to be addressed.

  10. not all the kids in strollers are as old as you think either. my neighbor measured her son ON his second birthday and he was 3 feet 2 inch. he looked older then 2 and his mom always got rude comments.

  11. he’s going to need the cardio training for when he becomes a wrestler or basketball player….
    3’2″ at two?
he’s over half an average full sized man FFS.
Must have been a 12 pounder back at zero hour.

  12. Kitty: Regarding the obesity note – what’s truly boggling is that children do not have the brain-body mechanisms to overeat until they are at least four years old, so it begs the question what the fuck are parents doing to their kids? Guessing poor food choices (lots of sugar, glucose/fructose, and HFCS) and TV instead of active play.

As far as older toddlers in strollers…if a parent isn’t going from A to B and back immediately they need to think about fatigue and sleep. Kids cannot walk for hours on end doing errands and the like. They need food and they need naps more often than adults do. I agree they should be walking while they have the capacity, but carrying a 30lb toddler once they’ve run out of steam and getting your stuff done at the same time is going to be tough. Forget carrying any packages, too. A small five year old can go farther, longer than a large two year old.

JMO: I hear you on the big kid thing. My son turned five months this week and he’s already 22lbs and 30″. I’m going to need a second job just for groceries once he starts eating solids. 🙂

  13. Once that kid turns 13, Three, you’re going to be even more screwed 😛

I think part of the problem re: childhood obesity these days is that toys and entertainment for kids is sedentary…video games, internet, dvds, etc… all encourage sitting on your ass doing nothing to get your heart rate up. I remember when I was a kid spending hours outside playing with my friends, running around and getting a lot of exercise in. Of course in today’s world it’s not an entirely smart idea to let your kid go all over the place without supervision, but seriously, take the kid swimming or put him/her in an organized sport and make them log off the internet for a few hours.

Some kids are going to be fat regardless, it’s in the genes, but for the most part there’s no excuse for it.

  14. Is it just me or is it quite obvious when people look down their noses at something and cast judgment without any practical experience and without collecting any relevant facts first? I’ll bet Jane the reviewer wrote this one too.

  15. OK, yes obese children are a huge problem, and I completely agree with Three’s OP. But unless you are psychic, you have no idea of the circumstances regarding the child being in a stroller, which leads me to believe you have no kids, because unless you were a self centered A-hole, you would know better than to judge a fellow parent on that matter. If you don’t have kids, than you have no rights to judge. Like seriously, WTF. So for the second time today, I am agreeing with Kay.

  16. It’s completely clear that this Op has no experience taking care of small children! The fact is, no 3-5 year old can walk as far (or as fast!) as an adult, and one doesn’t always have the luxury/option of leaving the little ones at home during a long day of errands.

And DER? is right, don’t assume every kid you see in a stroller has been there all day. A stroller is a handy to have with you when those little legs can no longer keep up with you!

  17. Parents these days let their kids learn healthy eating from a blue monster called Cookie Monster. Interesting times we live in, indeed.

  18. That’s the answer, a contact on the most evil monster in history – The Cookie Monster. But he does have a great song. LOL.

  19. Fever, parents YESTERDAY also “let their kids learn healthy eating from a blue monster called Cookie Monster”
    Please try again.

  20. Actually, back when when the Cookie Monster ate nothing but cookies, kids actually went OUTSIDE. But then again, parents taught their kids that there’s a thing such as moderation.

  21. very clear the op has no clue what they’re bitching about. Did you ever think that the mother has things she has to cart home after her trip out? I have 2 kids, ages 2&3 (my 3 year old looks like she’s 5), and when I get my groceries I have to take my stroller so I can get them home. Gonna call me lazy?

  22. Anyone I know with kids that age has a stroller so they can get from A to B in time. A leisurely walk is nice, but if you have to be somewhere you need to GO, a toddler isn’t going to match your pace.

I’m sure there are parents who needlessly do it, but I can’t say it’s a mark of bad parenting.

  23. People should not be presumptuous. Our daughter was 5 when we visited Niagra Falls. She was pooped before lunch. If we didn’t have her stroller with us we would not have had a vacation. None of us are obese so where is the logic, people? Jane?

  24. Yeah I’m not with you on this one Jane. What if you are making a half hour walk, or even a 10 min walk, to the grocery store, along a busy street, and have to walk with your hands full of grocery’s on the way back. My daughter is well behaved, and knows not to run out on a street, but I would rather not take that risk because it only takes one time. That’s just one of the many reason’s why a stroller may be appropriate. And hell I barely even use a stroller myself, but situations arise where i do, and where other people do. Unless you have experienced having to get things done like shopping, doctor’s etc. than lay off on the judgments.

  25. I hope you never have any children, MKWW. Your bitch betrays you as prejudiced, shallow, superficial, dogmatic, unsympathetic, cruel, judgemental, and extremely ignorant. You obviously have no idea what it is like to try to take a ten-minute walk with a lusty three-year old who insists on watching the ants and hunting spiders whenyou have to be at the office at 9:00 am. There is a time for walking and play, a time for strollers. Shut Up about what you obviously do not have a clue about.

  26. You don’t have a child? Then quityerbitchin. It isn’t fucking hurting YOU, and you have no idea the circumstances. As for saying that YOUR kids will walk? Go give birth, first, THEN talk.

  27. I wouldn’t say trolling around a mall is “having some place to go,” really.

And what about the welfare mothers you see around downtown dartmouth with fat asses squeezed in grungy sweat pants or one-size-too-small spandex pants, unwashed hair pulled back in a scrunchy sucking on a cigarette with their multitude of children hanging out of a stroller? Y’all know the type….they usually travel in packs and are usually bitching quite loudly about their “baby daddy”. You can’t tell me they “have somewhere to go”….other than down to the store to buy more smokes and booze.

  28. Kitty: While I agree with the general sentiment regarding the populace you cite, I don’t think the rest of us fall into that demographic.

And – as much as I hate the malls and try to avoid them – using HSC as an example, I can: pay my phone/Internet bills, visit HRDC to see if there are any employer programs for job creation that I can use, buy groceries and boozles, pickup some new clothes for the rapidly growing little man, do banking, pickup my suit from the dry cleaner, get my boots reheeled and indulge in a Juice-eh! No trolling involved, but I definitely could not carry my baby that long.

  29. I’m with Three on this one too. Also, strollers worked great for encouraging my daughter to listen to my words and teach her that she can have the freedom to walk around on her own while knowing her limits of how far she could go. She didn’t want to be in the stroller, plain and simple, so I would give her the choice: You walk around, but listen to me when i say don’t touch something, and stay where I can see you. If you don’t, your only other option is the stroller.

She tested me a little, and then became confident with her boundaries. Now I don’t even need a stroller because she doesn’t try to run off on me. And I realize that all parents think their kids are amazing, but I think that at two, It’s pretty good that she will stop and ask my permission to go and look at something.

Morale: strollers are useful for variety’s of reasons, don’t judge until you know for 100% that reason is horrible. Pretty Kitty’s example was legit, but you just never know.

  30. maybe when you have a child you will see that sometimes you have to get where you’re going, and need to be on the go by walking with a child in a stroller. don’t have a car and i see all to often how hard it is to take a stroller on the buses,so i’ll walk. doesn’t seem lazy to me??

  31. maybe when you have children you will see that sometimes you have to get where you’re going. i don’t drive a car,and i see all too well how hard it is to take a stoller on the bus.so i’ll walk to do what i need to do. doesn’t sound lazy to me.

I see, it is OK for you to do it, but not anybody else. There’s a word for that.
