Another dog bitch… There are so few places where you can have your dog off leash in the city (legally). BUT there are some great places, one being the waterfront at Point Pleasant Park before 10 am. Lots of people bring their dogs there to play in the morning and have a great time. I’m sick of people coming up in the morning and asking if we can leash our playing dogs because they are scared of dogs! This is not about aggressive or out of control dogs (so don’t start that line of commenting!). This is about dogs playing with each other, ignoring people, but people unable to ignore them! I understand some people are scared of dogs. I think the rules at the park take that into consideration and try to accommodate everyone. So if you are scared of dogs just wait and come after 10 or walk the main road at PPP (Cambridge Rd.) where dogs are never allowed off leash! It’s just ridiculous that these people are so self-absorbed that they think everyone else should have to accommodate them.

  1. are the rules posted?
I need to go down the street one day and have a look at this park.

If they are, then kindly point them to it. This doesn’t sound like an arbitrary number you’re pulling out your ass here…
if you’re entitled, then have at.

  2. Agreed. Politely inform them that you are following the rules and that this is one of the only times you are allowed to have your dog off-leash. The people complaining to you are probably not aware of the rules. If they don’t own a dog, they probably didn’t pay attention to that part of the sign…if there is one.

  3. I guess you could also offer to restrain your dog until they leave the area…but you are under no obligation to do so.

  4. There are signs posted, as the OP says. We used to go to the park everyday with our dog. Pre-Juan we typically stayed in the wooded areas because we were tired of being bitched at when we weren’t breaking rules.

  5. I’d do what zzz and miles suggested, it would be annoying after awhile though, I can feel that.

  6. take a pic of the sign and print a few out to take with you in the morning.
    Then there’s no conversation involved.
    🙂
A little more work on your part, but makes it easier.

price you pay for having a dog in the city.

  7. I think a brisk “No.” is in order… fucking people and their self-centeredness. i suppose its easier to say “sorry, but i would like my dog to play and this is the only time I can do it blah blah blah” but if you have to say that 20,000 times a week then…. just tell them to fuck off. they’ll figure it out.

  8. I totally agree with this bitch, however in turn, please ensure your dog is leashed at all times where it is required to do so (i.e. the cole harbour / forest hills green belt pathways).

  9. Trevor, the only area that requires a leash at all times is Cambridge. The waterfront is a no go zone after 10. The rest of the park is open to the pups. So people are not breaking the rules insofar as I am aware.

Having been in PPP nearly every day for eight years with my dog I can say that I was never witness to dog-related problems. No fighting. No peeing on stranger’s legs. Nada. Doesn’t mean that there weren’t occasional problems, but I would hazard that they were few and far between.
