If you drive less than 5 miles to work every day you are lazy.

Just today I biked from my house to school in less than 15 minutes. I guarantee you that to drive that route would take just as long. The best thing is I am getting exercise, not wasting money on gas, and not polluting the environment. So get off your fat lazy ass and bike. —Definitely Holier-Than Thou

  1. It’d be kind of difficult to ride a bicycle wearing a suit and tie and carrying a briefcase, hipster.
So like Ivan said, get fucked.

  2. Good thing we live 25 clicks away since, according to your edict, I’d have to fit Hub-Unit’s walker with a couple of jet packs to get him moving more than a few blocks. Not everyone’s lazy, Mr. Spokes.

  3. “Eat shit tapered jeans” >: )
I don’t even think there needs to be comma in there. It works well enough without one. LOLz

  4. Holier than thou?…Really?…While wearing bicycle shorts?…..Bahahahaha!
Cyclists, as a rule, don’t bother me one bit. But you, on the other hand, I would love to jam a stick through your front wheel as you go riding past me with your smug little smirk on your face. Awwwww….fall down go boom. And your inflated ego didn’t cushion your fall?? Tsk tsk. Looks like you’ll have to drive to work after all, what with your busted knees and taco’ed front wheel. Douchebag.

  5. So I should be biking whilst wearing general business apparel such as a suit with a skirt, high heels, and also carrying my computer, purse and lunch? Then I should spend the rest of my day sweaty, and sloppy when clearly it’s part of my job to appear professional and clean? Or maybe you think i should be wearing sweat pants to work, biking while carrying a GIGANTIC bag filled with my work clothes, computer, etc, and then changing at work, even though it’s not really possible or appropriate to do so. I concur: Biking may be ideal, but not practical for everyone. GET FUCKED.

  6. I think you all are forgetting the fact that you should be biking to work as a warm up..
then working out prior to work… getting showered and cleaned up, THEN going to work, then changing once again and biking home.. then showering again since you’re once again soaked….
THEN you get your private time to relax.
    DUH….
it’s what EVERYONE should be doing … so sayeth the OP.

  7. Not everybody has access to shower and change facilities. I’m lucky and usually stow a weeks worth of clothes at work. Definitely beats sitting in traffic but it isn’t for everybody. Though, if you live on the peninsula (I don’t) it could be more manageable that people realize.

  8. …and don’t forget the sheer joy of cycling during a monsoon rain – added by the pleasure of snaking up and down snowbanks along Quinpool Road all winter.

  9. Putting aside the OP, I need to set something straight: people, if you’re in any sort of reasonably good shape whatsoever, biking a short distance is NOT going to cause you to sweat like a rancid pig.

  10. So you biked to school….( clapping ) to sit in class. Well Congratulations OP you must feel so darn proud of yourself.
    Good boy, want a cookie?

  11. Sure, some people have either too much to carry with them, or aren’t healthy enough to walk to work in the heat of summer. But I’ll wager that 50% or more of the drivers I pass on my 3km walk to work could be walking or biking.

I am not a fit individual, but I could manage biking 11km to get to work last summer, in my work clothes, without being drenched in sweat. It’s time to stop making reasons for driving and start making reasons for running on your own steam:
You’ll get exercise, which reduces stress and leads to better health. You’ll have more energy during the day (yes, getting exercise gives you MORE energy). You’ll lessen your impact on the environment. You’ll save tons of cash on travel expenses (gas/bus tickets, regular auto maintenance). You won’t need to pay for a gym membership so that you can run in place on a treadmill.

It’s quite satisfying. I suggest you give it a go.

  12. Again, here people go making assumptions. Just because someone tends to be on the sweatier side, particularly when biking, doesn’t mean they are out of shape- at all. It means they are sweatier than average people. Ever hear of hyperhidrosis? People are so stupid when they’re being judgemental.

  13. Congrats OP. No doubt you arrived at work smelling like sweat and ass. Meanwhile all your coworkers enjoyed the air conditioning in their cars. Cars will always win.

  14. Yes, I drive to work and enjoy every minute of it as well as the few moments I am alone before going to work. I am at the gym for a good two hours in the evening. So your a uneducated when it comes to what other people do with their lives.

Oh I hear your also buying everyone here a new bike, to support your theory

  15. I don’t understand the resistance to biking from motorists. There is no way that driving is better than biking. Absolutely no ethical, moral, philosophical way.

    You people are fucking idiots.

  16. It’s when people start trying to drag “ethical” “moral” and “philosophical” into what is nothing more or less than a matter of personal choice that the old Bullshit Detector hits Threat Level: Midnight.
    That’s why.

  17. Halifox10 – that is a matter of opinion.

Calling people fucking idiots is not helping your arguement either.

  18. No offense guys, but the majority of you sound like Americans, rudely cursing out cyclists and driving everywhere wasting gas.

  19. I’m not sure what lazy has to do with it op. I walked to work this morning, I live about 5 km away (hills all the fricken way) and it took me about 50 mins with the stoplights and such. But if I had an important meeting today I wouldn’t have walked. If I had to stay late after work or needed to be at a meeting offsite, I wouldn’t want to bike. If I worked in a shared cubicle with someone I wouldn’t want to bike. If it were raining, same thing, wouldn’t want to walk or bike. Maybe it’s ok on your way to class, but some people have to look professional for work.

  20. We aren’t cursing “cyclists” swanson. We are cursing the fixie messiah who posted this bitch. Troll or not, it was designed for a specific response; one which, from the looks of it, we were only to happy to provide.

  21. There’s a decent suggestion in there OP, some people could probably bike to work but most can’t due to time constraints and practicalities. I wish I could but, Falmouth to Dartmouth, it’s bit over 5 km. I do carpool though.

  22. the fuck you are, I AM GOD, AND NOT PLEASED, ASSHOLE. so get thee to a place of public flogging, and await thy punishment.

  23. I used to bike to work -all uphill, but when I got there, I was a sweaty, red mess. I also almost died a few times on almon, so I stopped. Does that make me lazy? (I actually DO walk the 20 mins now, but damn, I wish I had a car)
