I went to get ink done at a local Halifax tattoo shop that will remain nameless, the girl was a half hour late for the consultation so another artist said he would do it. I pay $103, all is good. The day of my tattoo he was like, “Oh yeah man, sorry we lost your transcript what was I going to do on you again?” even though during that consultation he promised he would have all these drawings laid out for me. So anyways, the tattoo was supposed to be in black he said it would look much cooler in red or else he wouldn’t do the tattoo. I had already paid the money for it… eeesshh.

Basically, it looks terrible. I went to get advice from a reputable tattoo artist and his exact words were, “What the f*ck is that? Whoever did that to you should not be tattooing.” Put it this way: I have done all the cleaning methods and it’s already fading and the scab is almost all off. The colour looks atrocious.

I know what you’re thinking reader, why don’t I go back and fix it? Well, 1) I am not letting that man touch my skin again and 2) It can easily be fixed or covered up once this disaster starts healing properly.

I accept responsibility that I allowed this to happen, but I should warn all aspiring people of the ink to be wary. —Bane

  1. #1- if YOU didn’t want it in red you shouldn’t have let him tattoo you
#2- he wasn’t prepared for your appointment, I wouldn’t have let him touch me

I’m currently working on getting another tattoo – I’m curious where you went so I can avoid that place!

  2. Yeah, the minute he said he had lost your transcript I would have been saying “See ya! and gimme back my money.” Red flag right there. Sort of makes me wonder what else they may have forgotten/lost, “Ah man, I forgot to use a sterile needle. Aw, that’s ok. This one was barely used.” And then to have the gaul to tell you that it had to be done in a certain colour or he wasn’t doing it? Fuck that! That’s your tatoo, you’re paying for it. YOU pick the colours, not him. Yeah, he interpreted your ideas and drew them out for you, but it’s still your idea. It’s what YOU want. An actual tattoo artist, a real one, would have made sure you were happy with it before that needle got anywhere close to your skin. It all comes down to buyer beware. ESPECIALLY when dealing with something as permanent as a tattoo. Hopefully you can get this covered/corrected by a proper artist when it heals up.

  3. lol @ TTFN Chuck Norris! Awesome! You know he threw away the periodic table because he only believes in the element of surprise! 😉 I actually have a friend who got “WWCND” tattooed on his forearm….What Would Chuck Norris Do
    We pointed and laughed.

  4. Your first mistake was letting a guy you just met do you tattoo. Before you get a tattoo you should always check out an artists portfolio, most artists will have pictures of other tattoo’s they’ve done on the website to give people an idea of their skill and style. Did you even request to see some of his work before you said yes to this guy?

OP, you have to be less polite and more willing to make demands and call people out on their bullshit. Otherwise assholes like this will be walking all over you all your life. As soon as this guy showed up without having done the drawings that were promised, I would have been like “I’ll make another appointment and you’ll have the drawings for me then”. That’s actually being lenient. A lot of these places are pretty laid back but that doesn’t mean you have to be laid back about getting your tattoo. But if the artist ever threatened to back out if he didn’t get to ink my tattoo permanently on my body in the colour he likes, I would have been out of there. At that point you should have been able to get at least part of your money back for the inking that was never done, depending on how the place prices their services.

What a mess. You’re right, this is your fault OP, but this guy also sounds like a clown.

  5. Is the Black Rose still around? A biker with FUCK YOU on the inside of his lower lip did mine about 20 years ago.

  6. Yeah like Snoop said OP, stop being so polite. You should have never allowed yourself to compromise like that.

  7. The only idiot here is you OB. We are not asking how it can be fixed we are wondering why you got it in the first place. You couldn’t wait for the tattoist you originally wnet to to come back, You couldn’t ask for your money back and go elsewhere. And worst of all you’re pulling a Peter Kelly and not take responsibility for your stupidity.

  8. he was so funny snubiz, like a caricature of a biker tattooist…he did good work and was charmingly grouchy

  9. It almost sounds like the guy that did OB’s tat wasn’t even an artist but a practical joker that was hanging around the shop at the right time.

  10. all i can say to this, is serves you right for fucking up your skin with fucking tattooes. if you were sposed to have that shit on you, then you would have been born with it.altho some shit looks pretty good, most are just black fucking stupid looking shit.if you waste your time and money on it, then get something that makes fucking sense, but that is usually lacking in those that do get them.to each thei own.

  11. I know the prospect of getting something you wanted badly was more on your mind…
and so you blindly went into this.

Perhaps the lesson here is… if it’s that important to you, you’ll have the patience to get it done properly.
you should also give an inkling (heh heh) as to where this might have been somehow so we can all remember this place for in a couple months when the next bitcher posts about a shite tat.

ps, no shit… suicide girls rock
    LS, you’re a tool

we weren’t born with clothes either but you -hopefully- have succumb to that ‘trend’…
along with jewelry.. and not sure whether you dye that silver hair back brown again or just let the 3 hairs wave in the wind.

  12. no zzz, i am just a naturalist at heart. clothing is not optional, but mandatory in this fucking world. tats are not. they are just a by gone marking of the skin to denote what tribe you are/were from. look up the real reason tats were thought of. and i think some look good, just not those stupid black squiggly line type of shit. would i ever get one, not unless i was a zulu warrior.

  13. Pet peeve- when people call them “tats”. Tip from an industry insider- this isn’t cool slang anymore.

  14. On another note- that really sucks about your experience. Yes, definitely you should listen to advice from your tattoo artist- sometimes they know better what will work as a tattoo, but ultimately, if you aren’t comfortable with it, you shouldn’t get it done.
Some shops have a non refundable deposit- this protects the artist should you decide to bail at the last minute and they are stuck with wasted time. So a word to the wise- be SURE you are booking in with a reputable artist before you leave any money. If you can’t wait half an hour for your first choice (and yes, sometimes we do run late), then you aren’t ready to get a quality tattoo, in my opinion. People that want a tattoo RIGHT NOW and will go anywhere to get it, well… it’s buyer beware. Hopefully you are able to get what you have fixed up/covered 🙂

  15. The non-refundable deposit wouldn’t click in in this case as it was not the original artist. The OB should have demanded his or her money back or rebooked with the original artist. The second artist should never have got involved. But the OB is responsible for allowing it to happen.
