Firstly I can’t believe the number of people who think you can drive on the sidewalk. I’m from the sticks and I’m smart enough to know that’s wrong.
Secondly, with regards to above comments, if the car driver is turning and the bike is going straight, the bike has the right of way just as a car would.
There are bad drivers and pedestrians and cyclists throughout the city, although they are probably in the minority. You’re lucky OP that you were able to swerve. Defensive cycling is something that everyone should have the opportunity to learn

I had a dumb cunt pull out of a parking lot in front of me today, she cowered down as we were face to face, her in her car and me on my bike, mouthing “sorry” to me, for which I responded nice and clear like “You are a fucking idiot”. Pretty sure she got it. 5 minutes later was the guy turning off of oxford who merged right in front of me forcing me to come to a stop. Gave him the finger on his driver’s side as I went by….

Mel. that’s the way I read it. Now if they were on intersecting streets and the car had the stop sign and the cyclist didn’t, then the driver of the car is an ass. If on the same street going the same way then the cyclist is an ass.
I bike on the sidewalk all the time, I don’t trust drivers. I did it when I was a kid and I will do it now. Get over it!

What a crybaby. Lane splitting is illegal. If I see a cyclist riding up on my right I usually cut them off by turning into a driveway or side street. Piss them off youbetcha teach them a lesson probably not. Kill a couple well not yet. On a motorcycle you can pull the same stunts but just try it. Which ever one is the biggest has the right of way.
So when I’m in my car or truck & I see a Semi turning, even if I have the right of way, I don’t ‘push it’ . After all if it runs me over, even if I am in the right…I’m still going to be fucked up or dead !
Works the same for a bike, be cautious & give way to the bigger vehicle, because they may not have seen you & hitting you will take you out, doesn’t matter who has the right of way !.
