I’m really pissed off that it looks like we’re destined to have Darrell Dexter’s NDP win the next provincial election. Don’t people realize that the last thing this province needs, in the middle of a recession, are a bunch of socialists running around with the money? Elect the Liberals, or even re-elect the PC’s, but please, LORD, don’t give us an NDP Government!

  1. Why would it be so bad? Mismanagement under the NDP would be just as bad as mismanagement under the Liberals/Tories (just look at John Savage’s work in the health care sector) This province is a mess, regardless of who leads.

  2. Jesus, does it really matter who, politically, leads this province. They would equally fuck it up no matter who was running it. It can’t get any worse that it is right now. Maybe we might get lucky.

  3. The NDP is officially opposed to the government taking back ownership of Nova Scotia Power.

That’s a hell of a socialist party, eh?

  4. Well Darrell really doesn’t want to be premier anyways. He’s had multipe opportunities to defeat the government and hasn’t done so. If he ever beomes premier, he would actually have to do something and make decisions. He’d rather be in opposition where he can say anything without being accountable.

  5. Socialist in title only, eh, Tim? The NDP learned in the late 90’s to be more pragmatic, which in turn means they dropped most of their “socialist” tendencies. Sure, they aren’t the same as the Liberals per se, but they might as well be.

  6. As someone who has followed provincial politics for a long time, this is how I see it:

Tories – Spend, spend, spend. Experts at feathering own nests and fuck the poor.

Liberals – Cut, slash, burn in a panic, then wonder why everyone hates them. Civil servants can expect rollbacks and unpaid leave. Lots of protests.

NDP – tax the rich, tax the middle class to pay for unwed welfare mothers and then bankrupt the province paying for social programs.

    Just my humble opinion.

  7. It’s the national NDP we have to worry about. Provincial NDP isn’t so bad.

Perhaps, if we DO get an NDP government student loans wouldn’t ass rape us all on a regular basis. Who knows 😉

I’m all for being fiscally responsible, but I’m also all for anything that reduces my student debt load 🙂

  8. and what do we have to look forward to if the cons.or libs. get back in.less of everything except taxes and rip offs from them.

  9. The provincial NDP have just as many moonbats working behind the scenes as the federal party on a proportional basis. All those disaffected perpetual college student types who could never get a real job end up working for them. And then you have the shining lights like Kommissar Howard “don’t build anything anywhere” Epstein, Graham”Stainless and Sanctimonious” Steele, and Wild Bill Estabrooks, the next Minister of Edumacation. Get ready for a punishing tax burden, more govt intrusion into your life, and an even more bankrupt province.

  10. NDP = No Damned Policies. They should consider bringing Saint Alexa back from retirement she’s the kiss of death, look how spectacularly she brought the Federal NDP to oblivion.
It really doesn’t matter who is in Province House (even for 39 days sitting) Nova Scotia is like someone taking out pay-day loans and all sources of credit are maxxed-out.

  11. I think we should give them the chance to lead the government of Canada before we bitch about how bad they’ll do. We know that the other two parties can screw it up, because we’ve seen it go back and forth, back and forth. The NDP haven’t actually had the opportunity to screw things up yet, so in reality, we don’t actually know if they will.

  12. Socialists are bad? We’re a highly socialistic society. What are you afraid of, OP? Universal health care? Universal child care?

  13. 1. The NDP doesn’t have enough seats to defeat the government without the Liberals; otherwise the Tories would be gone.
    2. They screwed up Ontario (while the Liberals and Tories did the same elsewhere at the same time)? What about Saskatchewan, Manitoba and BC under NDP governments?
    3. Nova Scotians will be better off with Dexter and the Dippers; they have been consistent in demanding fiscal accountability since 1999 – they have not made any commitments that haven’t been costed and doable with a balanced budget.
    4. The Tories have SIGNIFICANTLY increased taxes (service fees) and the Liberals got us into this mess.
    5. NDP will not raise taxes – if they do, they’re liars too.
    6. Canada Revenue Agency will tell you that of the 3 main political parties it’s the NDP that has the best record of balancing the books at the provincial level in Canada.
    7. The NDP has not yet been given a chance – are we so CYNICAL that we feel the need to re-elect the assholes that have fucked us forever just because of hair brained Torie/Liberal bullshit rhetoric?

  14. I’m one of those who believes that trying out the unknown at least has a chance of working out to the good. The Liberals & Tory’s have done nothing short of helping themselves & the lack of leadership by Mr. Macdonald tells me its time for him to go.
So lets give the NDP a chance, with the mess we’re in now why the hell not.

  15. I’m all for stepping into the great unknown.
with all the scandals and cover-ups you read about over the years, let’s pass the ball to the new guy for a change.
‘could be the next big thing….
