My father, who is now almost 78 years old, has an apartment across the street. Every year I politely ask the owner, who plows himself, to stop piling his snow across the street from his building right next to my fathers driveway. So, when ever the city plow goes by, all the snow from the apartment across the street goes into his driveway. Today, when i went over to shovel him out, there it was again. This time it was piled on the road 6 inches from my dads driveway. Apparently my father went out to ask him not to do this, and he yelled at my father that he can do whatever he wants. When I talked to another neighbor, he told me that because my father asked him to stop, it just makes him put the snow closer and closer. He told me because this asshole has lots of money, he looks down on the little people. I have informed my father to let me know as soon he shows up next time it snows…..why do people have to be such assholes? Lets make the 78 year old man shovel snow til he takes a heart attack….that will teach him. —getting tired of it.

  1. How do you know he has lots of money? Never assume for a moment that those with bigger, better, badder have more money than you. Chances are they do not. They are, perhaps, eligible for more credit than you so essentially the lender owns their shit.

  2. Money or not Koda, the man is 78. The other guy is being inconsiderate. There is no excuse.

OB, post the address of the asshole. Better, let’s form a little group to “discourage” your Dad’s neighbour from being a dick. I understand lynch mobs are all the rage these days…

Seriously, call the police and file a complaint. Do this each and every time the old prick (notice the use of masculine insultive language v. female) plows. The police will have to respond each and every time.

Even if there is nothing they can do, at some point in time your father’s neighbor will get the picture, a fine, a kick in the nuts…

  3. I’m a tad unsure of the geography on this one, but it is against the bylaws to push your snow onto the road (though a lot of people do it.). And even if the snow was cleared from the road and across the street, then it’s being placed on someone else’s property…possibly without permission.

  4. ASSHOLES & HOW THEY GOT THAT WAY

“He told me because this asshole has lots of money, he looks down on the little people…why do people have to be such assholes?” Getting tired of it

I think you’ll find that the two assertions are not just inter-related but indeed stand in a cause-effect relationship. Simply put, some people are assholes because they have lots of money. Of course, this does not apply across the board but the existential fact of having a lot of money does create the context in which those who are so pre-disposed do, in fact, become assholes. (This is not to reduce my claim to the tautology, “Those who are pre-disposed to become assholes do, in fact, become assholes.” Context here, i.e. the possession of money, is crucial.)

As the English historian Carlyle once famously observed, “Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely,” my claim is that the same thing applies, “mutatis mutandis” (a little Latin there), to the possession of money.

    A pleasure as always,

    Cheerio!

  5. “rich mans snow in my fathers driveway”

Is it just me, or is Bruce not even trying anymore, since The Big Man died. >: (

  6. when I clear my driveway I make sure that any snow close to the road gets pushed on the ‘down’ side so when the plow comes by there isn’t a big pile of snow for him to shove across my cleared driveway (something they seem to delight in doing) but in the city, no matter where the apt guy shoves his snow the plow is going to pile it across someone’s drive, because there just isn’t enough distance between driveways.

however I agree he is probably doing it deliberately now. if it is against a bylaw to push it onto the street – nail him that way. get pictures, video. he is being a jerk. he should be scooting over in his plowy thing and doing your dad’s drive as a neighbourly gesture

  7. Rent a bobcat the next time we get a real good dumping of snow and then put all of the snow piled up by your dad back to where it came from.

  8. I agree with Haz, but really, you shouldn’t have to pay money to teach this arsehole a lesson. The arsehole apartment owner should be renting a truck to haul the snow away like every other responsible apartment/parking lot owner who doesn’t have room to dump it in their own lot, does.

There are so many skeezy, greasy, cheap landlords in this city. I have experience with one restaurant-owning rental company from about 8-10 years ago, and I’ve heard all kinds of stories from friends regarding others. Most of them are local yokels with a few buildings who think they’re hot shit because they own a bunch of properties. They’re also the first to violate the residential tenancies act and rent to folks who they know won’t challenge them on it.

  9. Stay overnight at your Dad’s sometime when it’s going to snow.

Befor neighbour gets up, hook up the garden hose and soak the snow(bank) in his driveway.

It’ll freeze solid as a rock, then you can laugh at him when he breaks his plow.
