Dear Student Loan Office:

Why do you praise your new NSSL dispensing system as OH SO MUCH BETTER AND FASTER now that this new company has the contract to dispense the funds when it takes just as much time to get your money?

Your website says it takes 2 business days now and praises itself for being oh so much easier/faster for me, the student. However, when I called your office to ask why my $$$ wasn’t in my account you said it’s going to take 7 days.

That’s just as long as it took before!

My beef isn’t that it’s taking 7 days, I can deal with that, but why give us one set of info, and praise yourself for being oh so much better in the process, when your info is wrong and you’re no better than you were before. Oh sure, I don’t have to take my loan form to get signed, but really, anyone who thinks that’s such a big hardship is just lazy.

I’m just sick of organizations praising themselves and patting themselves on the back when it’s all bullshit.

  1. Yeah but the processing time is so much better now. I remember I would send my info in and it would take a month or more for it to get looked at then you had to hope it was the right info, now I have heard back with in a week or two at the most. Say what you will be every little bit helps.

  2. Eh. As long as you send everything in early enough and keep following up you tended to be ok.

With the bank that is royal, you’d bring your signed form in and they’d have to send it to the student loan centre in Halifax, who would then send it to Toronto (because toronto opens all their mail) and then it would have to be sent back to the loan centre in Halifax and THEN it would take 2 days to be processed after that. That took five-seven business days. The student assistance office confirms with the university how much you owe before the dispensing date and it’s SUPPOSED to go in within 2 days (that’s what their site says) but in reality it’s 5-ish days, and that’s after they have all the information and just have to input how much they deposit into your account…so why is it the same time roughly for this new system as the old system, which had all that waste of time crap?

So I can see the OP’s frustration on this.

  3. This year is sooo much better then past years. THANK GOD The first half of my loan was done the same week I applied and the second half I sent it in early but didn’t hear back for awhile because I couldn’t cash it til January. I will wait the 5 days it’s better then the 4-6-8 weeks waiting for a decision to be made on if your even going to get a loan.
The provincial half is electronic now and even after the it’s been done by student assistance your enrollment has to be comfirmed by the school before the money will be deposited. That’s what a person told me from student assistance.

  4. I’m sitting here wondering where my statement of interest paid is, and when it is going to come. If the government of Canada can’t even get me my tax forms on time, how can they yell at other businesses?
