Does anyone else think that the amount of snowdays HRSB, and the province of Nova Scotia has had this year is completely ridiculous?? I can see why schools would be cancelled if there were terrible road conditions, or icestorms, perhaps. But cancelling classes because we’re expecting snow today?? Or because of slush and puddles the morning after a snowy/rainy evening? I’m sorry, but it’s just getting silly. When i was a kid, we’d have to go to school in storms all winter. I’m in my 20’s now, so it wasn’t all THAT long ago. We live in Canada. It snows. Get the fuck over it and stop babying our students. It’s disgusting.

The reason school is cancelled is because by noon the roads are supposed to be bad. And then the school board would have to cancel school and the parents would have to leave work, drive on the bad roads to pick up the kids and find a place to bring their kids or else take them to work with them. It’s more convinent for the parents if school is cancelled in the morning. oh and FYI, there were many more snow days last year than this year.

Did you live in an area where kids were bussed in? If not, then the likelihood of the school closing was slimmer. HRSC has only recently (maybe the last five years)jumped on the school closure bandwagon for every potential snowflake. It was mostly rural schools that closed a lot.
Back in the day, we walked to school. We all lived within a reasonable distance from our schools, so bussing was unnecessary. It’s less safe to have big school buses on the road that could result in an accident. So, if we need to blame someone, we should blame our shrinking population that is forcing school closures and sending our kids further in order to get to school.
It’s legal liability. The world is a much different place, schools included, twelve to fifteenth years on down the road. You know what I’m talking about. The increasing frequency of lawsuits and people standing on local soapboxes. No one wants to be sued.
I was driving 45 on the bay road coming home at 1 this afternoon and the roads were white. I couldn’t see shit and the car would slip like shit if I braked.
It was a good decision to cancel school today, I don’t know what’s up the OPs ass.
It’s terrible out there. I think the OP’s pissed off that she can’t have free babysitting for a day. Not to mention the fact that she’d be the first person to go ape shit crazy if the bus went off the road.
Ya, get a grip, OP. The weather here is unpredictable, and I believe in this case it’s better to be safe than sorry. Children sometimes DIE in bus accidents on icy roads. School is just not as important as some people apparently think. Sorry if protecting our offspring interferes w/ your schedule…
Gee four whole cancellations and one noon time cancellation this school year.
Shit, when I was in HS in the valley we had cancellations every week between Jan-March one year.
Four? STFU, OP.
