“At the end of the day being able to create something that you put in a glass and see someone really enjoy—it’s a pretty gratifying thing,” says Kellye Robertson, who, while still studying brewmaster and brewery management in Niagara, won Garrison’s Ultimate Brew-Off in 2013 and landed herself a job. She says getting the opportunity to do “literally everything” at Garrison has really shaped her craft, and that eagerness to learn is likely why she’s been recruited to be the brewmaster at mysterious soon-to-be craft brewery that’ll open in Halifax in 2015. “It’s fun to be part of shaping what craft beer means to the east coast,” says Robertson. “How’s the east coast going to leave its mark? It’s going to be really cool to be trendsetters for the craft beer generation that’s happening out here.”
