Nova Scotia’s outdoor superstore The Trail Shop (6210 Quinpool) celebrates 40 years in business the week of November 12-16. The celebration merely begins with a store-wide 25 percent off sale, as it’s really the visit from renowned climber Conrad Anker that has owners Joachim Stroink and April Stroink tongue-tied.

“He’s a hero in the climbing community; he found George Mallory’s body on Mount Everest,” says Joachim Stroink. “He’s like the Lance Armstrong in the climbing world.” Anker is scheduled to speak at SMU November 13, 7-9:00pm. Tickets are $10.

The Trail Shop originally opened above the Spartan Restaurant (6403 Quinpool) and was owned by a co-operative that included Greg Smiley, John Clark and Charlie Wainwright. Husband and wife Stroink team took over the Trail Shop four years ago. The Trail Shop currently employs 15 staff members, some who have been with the business for the past 27 years. Congrats.
