So, good job, Canada. Good job contributing six of our fighter jets to help in the fight against ISIS. One question comes to mind though. How many luxury hotels did their crews and pilots stay in? Any one know how much their meal and travel allotments were by chance? I know we need a military but this is a joke and a waste of taxpayer money. There is not one person in this country that can argue fighter jets which coincidentally can reach supersonic speeds need an entire week to do what any public airline can do in less than 18 hours. Some people I’ve brought this up to say its more of  logistical issue. If thats the case, I’d say our military is completely unprepared for anything. America help us if any hostilities commence. We’ll be ready in a week, lol. —What a joke

  1. Your friends who understand it to be a logistics issue are a lot smarter than you, in this case. Also, factor in budget cutbacks to training and maintenance and the fact that since we left Germany, our ability to forward deploy outside the hemisphere is not nearly as good as, say the Americans. And it isn’t simply a case of 6 “Captain Kirks” hopping into their “super high-tech jet fighters” (1980s Nena reference – Rrrrowww!) and zip zooming off to some un-named airfield in Kuwait. 2 Auroras, a Polaris tanker and some 600 support personnel, all needing to be accommodated, along with fuel, spare parts and munitions before we could be operational.
    That’s why, Sport.

Now, answer back with some arsey comment about how why we can’t drop laser guided munitions through heavy cloud cover so I can make you look even more stupid.

    Per Ardua ad Astra

  2. DO WHAT?

“There is not one person in this country that (sic) can argue fighter jets which coincidentally can reach supersonic speeds need an entire week to do what any public airline can do in less than eighteen hours.” What a joke

Do what, take down ISIS in less that eighteen hours? Let me be the first to buy you a ticket.

    A pleasure as always.

    Cheerio!

  3. Go fuck yourself OB you useless twat. Again some idiot who doesn’t have two clues about what they are talking about. The only fucking joke around here is you OB.

  4. I think movies and video games are great but I also think some people confuse that fiction with reality.

And what’s with the crap about travel and meal allowances? Do you think the military are going to a sales convention in Vegas?

There are doubtlessly valid arguments for and against Canada’s participation in this battle. However, the pilots are currently being asked to put their lives on the line and, as Ivan pointed out, we need to be sure that we have all of the necessary supports in place to get them through this as safely as possible.……. or, by the OB’s logic, maybe we should have just told them to pack a lunch, jump in their planes, find a place to fill up on the way, drop some bombs, and be home by the end of their shift because we aren’t paying overtime, meals or motel costs……. And if you scratch or dent the plane it’s coming out of your pay, pilots. The taxpayers have spoken!

  5. Dude, as someone who actually has done something like they are doing, you have NO fucking clue what you are talking about. How do you like sand in your meals, or to live out in the open until some shitty portable shack is dropped off. wanna see the cots? wanna see the shit hole we have to dig for ourselves until a portapotty gets dropped off. the back of the C130/ c17 isnt very luxurious either pal. its pieces of shit like you that every service person asks ‘why did we even bother” i wonder, HOW MANY trees did you help clear out of this city for weeks after hurricane juan when nova scotia power were nowhere to be seen. HOW MANY PEOPLE did we house on the base for medical and humanitarian reasons during the same time. How many forest fires, ice storms and floods have YOU personally helped out in the disaster relief efforts? THE entire 600 person contingent are in a shitty location in Kuwait, building their housing out of a patch of god forsaken desert in order to fly the missions we are asked to participate in. REAL fucking luxury. Real fucking clueless you are. Makes me sick i have to claim citizenship with assholes like you OB

  6. Luxury hotels? Geezuz, even the ISIS Kingpin is taking a shit in a hole in the ground. Who have you been talking to about this? A 4 year old?

  7. This now strikes me as funny for some reason….

I think the OB’s comment about luxury hotels was about their accommodations on the way over there opposed to their accommodations while in Kuwait. On that note, judging by the backgrounds of every newscamera over there reporting on this situation no one is sleeping in shitty portable shacks. Seems like there’s quite a nice small town set up there already to house foreign military personnel for some reason….. I don’t imagine it matches the comforts of home but they do have air conditioning. They’re staying on an already established base.

An excellent book I could suggest to those that question the expenses the OB is referring to would be “Tarnished Brass: Crime and Corruption in the Canadian Forces”

I also think the OB is an idiot. One that is still entitled to his’her opinion on the Canadian Military.

  8. Cuja12 — although I agree and empathize with almost everything you state, I would like to address your comment:

“… its pieces of shit like you that every service person asks ‘why did we even bother” …”

Having served many years … I; nor any of my brothers or sisters in arms have EVER asked this question.

  9. Really Hali?
‘Cause there are certainly enough Canadians the world could definitely do without.
The Head Honcho being at the top of the list…

  10. OB seems to be suggesting that investing our limited military resources into the “defense system” (e.g. capital investments, military personnel, training) is a better option than diverting them to a Team America World Police (fuck yeah!) imperialist Show-and-Tell for Russia and China. If this is the case, then I must agree. A beta monkey flinging his shit at the alpha is a zoological analogy to Mr. Harper’s directing air strikes at the Middle East.

  11. I think there may be a little transference going on here, Meow. OP is judging a complex military operation from a perspective of utter military ignorance. Uttewr historical ignorance, as well. His screed is devoid of the standard catchphrases of opposition (“imperialist”) and the standard scat throwing at the P.M. (I don’t like him much, either, but I like Russia, China and politicized islam even less). OP’s stance is one of “I don’t understand it; therefore it must be stupid” – an all too common condition in this era of instant information, and cursory knowledge.
I’m not going to debate our involvement with you. I’ve a pretty good idea we each understand where the other is coming from, but you may be giving the OP far too much credit. IMO.

  12. I thought the box lunches on the hercs was a real treat. Wish I knew my travel allowance was good for more.

  13. The allotment per day is 84$, for all meals. After 30 days it goes down.
Although an F-18 can go super super fast, it does not carry enough fuel I get that far. And if it WAS flying super super fast, it would burn it’s fuel even faster.
IF the fuel trucks are ready when the pilots land, turning around an F-18 would take and hour Minimum, they have after and before flight checks do carry out, paper work and the fuel. And that’s if no maintenance is required.
Pilots also have a max. Flight day of 8 hrs unless approved to go over by higher authority.
    Dick.

  14. op just sounds like a jealous paper pusher who begrudges any comfort the troops get and calls it frills.

  15. I understand it took 4 years from the declaration of war on them Nazzees to the invasion of Normandy. What a bunch of yutzes. What were they working on- banker’s hours? I’m surprised we’re not still a part of Germania today.

    *heavy-handed sarcasm alert*

  16. Halioops, many i have served with and do serve with think that way, especially when you are clearing trees off of some poor person’s house and a neighbour is screaming at another member for not raking leaves on their untouched/undamaged home….its frustrating to have to share the air with a lot of the idiots we have festering in our country…the entitled, the misinformed, the keyboard warriors….

  17. and just because we think that way, doesnt mean we wont do our duty, follow orders and grin and suck it up like we are told. We may not like it, but we WILL continue to do our duty. Police, firefighters, military, postal workers, hospital workers, Dr’s, nurses, im sure have all felt the same way sometimes, especially when theres an asanine jerk like the OB posting about stuff they have no idea or qualifications to be comparing or posting about.
