People of HRM already know about the tax reform so the rich can get a tax break and the middle class pays more for their property taxes but for HRM council to give a private yacht a $32,000 tax break then cry that they are millions in hole… —I want a break too

well shit o.p., we have to have a break. my yacht is more secure at the club, than tied to it’s own wharf. which there is a very few private ones around.
le homme has been there for the last ten years, and she is treated good. if you have a problem with a couple thou., remember that emera takes a big chunk of tax breaks too, and they aren’t even canadian.
I know a lot of people who sail, and they’re far from rich. They work their asses off to enjoy their boats, and the clubs have a nice sense of cimmunity, all Thurston Howell jokes aside.
I agree that on the surface a yacht club is for the haves, but the reality is many of them are just middle class folks who chose to put money in a boat instead of a cottage.
The yacht clubs in Halifax are overpriced. We have our mooring in Chester, where there are plenty of islands to sail to in the summer months. Not to mention, Chester Yacht Week rocks 🙂
I’m crashing Marblehead this year. Who’s with me?

i’m all yours captain, i am an excellent deck hand…and i’m not a ginger^^http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4017/450479…
my tub isn’t huge, just a 32 footer, looks like the minnow from gillighan’s island series.had for ages, and pay fuck all to store at purcell’s cove yacht club. 40 bucks a month.
Say what now?
$32,000 is a lot of money, but spread among the rate payers of the HRM it wouldn’t even buy a coffee.
There are far bigger fish to fry when it comes to tax breaks.
But that’s what you get when the tax code is written by folks who move back and forth with relative ease between government ministries and corporate boardrooms.
