the driver is the one driving the godamn death machine. i’m so sick of the blame-the-pedestrian mentality that seems to flourish on these boards. if you’re in a ton of metal, YOU have the responsibility.
i am so sick of these stupid fucks who cannot be arsed to come to a complete stop at a MARKED crosswalk.
drivers=selfish idiots.

There’s a few basic rules to make it safer for everyone. Red means stop, green means go Looking BOTH ways and making sure its safe to cross a street, using the sidewalks provided, using the crossing points provided, are a few examples. These rules ALSO apply to pedestrians. Pedestrians break them just as much as drivers do and when they do and an accident happens, guess what? ITS NOT the Drivers fault.Nice try keep trolling.
IT IS THE DRIVERS FAULT.
NOPE It’s not
i have to agree with Elvis Q.Drivers are not always at fault, a ton of metal.. yes i agree. but its not easy to stop a ton of metal on a dime. Those walking have to have enough sence to realize that they have to have their head out of their arse and look both ways before crossing, making sure that a driver sees you and has enough time to stop safely
I’m with Elvis Q, you can call drivers “selfish idiots”, but what about the pedestrians who walk out into a crosswalk without making eye contact with the driver? My personal philosophy is that my life is in MY hands at all times, and if it means making the effort to make sure a vehicle has come to a complete stop before walking out into traffic, I will take it upon myself to do so.
BLRC!! -Back ( over your shoulder ) , left, center, right. The direction to look at when crossing an intersection. Say this in your head every time you step off a curb. It could save your life. Also make eye contact with the driver and keep scanning as you walk. Sounds like advice you’d give a 6 year old but i hate seeing people cross in front of me with their eyes glued to the ground.
Yeah, I’m with Elvis on this one too…everyone has to take responsibilty for their own actions…and their own lives! You can’t expect mommy to hold your hand while you cross the road everytime.
Holy fuck! Would you non-car owners stop being so goddam righteous! Its pretentious ideals like yours that will get you killed next time you blindly walk into a crosswalk.
This is a really ignorant opinion. This is machinery people. I would expect the same amount of care taken by people around huge construction equipment also taken around cars and trucks on the road, mostly because an excavator can make you just as dead as a Mazda Miata.People in cars have limited vision, they are often distracted, they often have little regard for their surroundings so as a pedestrian you have to be very careful when you have to interact with them. The point being, if you rely on others to make sure you stay alive, then you will end up sorely mistaken. Well, dead. That’s how you will end up. Dead. Trust me. And it’ll probably hurt too. Take some time to let that sink in.
The interaction between pedestrians is a dangerous one, and both parties have their responsibilities. It is a fact that pedestrians that have never held a drivers license are nine times more likely to be killed by a car! Those of us with drivers licenses out for a walk treat every oncoming car as if it was being driven by an escaped alcoholic convict fleeing the scene of the crime. We make eye contact with the driver and watch for an acknowledgment. Being in the right does not give you the right of way if you end up dead. The drivers of the fair city are in a big rush to get no where and the streets are narrow and under lit. As a driver I treat every pedestrian as clueless curb jumper. No disrespect but physics beat crosswalk paint every time.
No, no, and NO! Crosswalk safety is the responsibility of the driver AND the pedestrian. But, you don’t have to take my word for it.http://www.halifax.ca/traffic/CrosswalkSafetyVideos.html
yes_u_win has got it right, just assume that people are clueless and take steps to avoid squishing them, or take steps to assure you aren’t squished by them, conversely.Case closed. The Knux came out with a new album, its awesome. Buy it. Its worth it.
You god damn self serving son of a bitch!!!! have you ever sat in a truck that big and saw what they can’t see??? it not a whole lot……this was a horrible accident, she was crossing..he was turning, he COULD NOT SEE HER!!! I saw his face as soon as he got out of his truck….have you seen a grown man cry like a child?……….almost all witnesses said that she was not paying attention, most yelled at her to stop.grow the fuck up already….you stupid fuck
I’m with Elvis Q. Those of us driving the “godamn death machine” do have a responsibility to keep alert and have an eye out for pedestrians, cyclists, bikers, joggers, lane jumpers, light rushers, etc….but I think all the above mentioned also have agreed to follow the same laws of the roads as the evil death machine drivers do. Alternatives to driving are great, but those who make the choice to employee one of them: wake up, look up and listen up – you have a responsibility for your own safety as well as others around you. The OP is right; it’s a ton of metal – a TON OF METAL. Even the most diligent among us in the car driving world can’t be blamed if you’re weaving a 10 speed in an out of lanes, rollerblading down the MIDDLE of the lane or stepping out in the middle of the road – let alone at a designated cross walk – with ears plugged into an iPod and eyes glued to your iTouch. It’s not every pedestrian and it’s not every driver, but come on – it’s your life – in a car or on your feet, take responsibility for it and stop blaming others if you choose to be flippant with it and get hurt.
The best thing you can do in any situation, is to stop and think, “people are stupid”. If you’re at a cross walk, think, People are Stupid, so that car probably wont see me, and therefore wont stop, so you wait until he does. If you’re in a car and coming to a crosswalk, or person standing on the side of the road, think People are Stupid, so he is going to walk out in front of me, so I had better slow down. If you always assume People are stupid, your life will be full of pleasant surprises when they aren’t, and you’ll be safer and less pissed off when people live up to your expectations.
Safety is a two way street–pedestrians need to take responsibility for their safety and stop, look, and listen before stepping out into a crosswalk. Make eye contact with a driver so that your intentions are known. Drivers do need to pay more attention to their driving and exercise caution at busy intersections. Plain and simple!
Hello ‘hoping gas goes up’What do you think stops quicker. You walking ? A Tandem Truck (approximate weight 64,000 lbs) turning right? aka- the blind side of the truck.Wow you were really smart enough to pick you walking !Safety is a 2 way thing . There is also that other thing you may have forgotten , “Little things should be wary of BIG F*&^%$G MOVING OBJECTS.THEY CAN HURT/KILL YOU…YOU !!!! can at best, knock some dirt off them .
God this is a dumb bitch. Did your parents never tell you to look both ways and make sure the driver see’s you last week someone ran out infront of my car and I did not see him and nearly hit him then he has the audacity to start screaming at me Like what a moron look both ways before you jaywalk onto barrington street at lunch hour you fucking dimwit. Drivers also have to slow down at crosswalks but I am a cyclist driver and pedestrian and if Im walking I always make sure the drivers see me so I don’t end up ground into the pavement
