I used to love going to the movies, not just for the movie, but for the delicious buttery movie theatre popcorn. Now, after I pay 15 dollars for a drink and popcorn, what do I get? Orville Redenbacher with Becel “butter”. Seriously? I can pop better popcorn at home.
As if its not bad enough that I have to pay 12 dollars to watch 15 mintues of advertisments before the movie starts, either!
Grumbles.

Knapsack + homemade popcorn in paper bags = not getting fleeced for something that has the equivilant fat of five Big Macs.
I love the previews.I like them better than the movies.
I don’t feel bad for sneaking into movies, watching pirated films online, reusing ticket stubs, bringing food and drink into the theatres. Other the last 10 years theatres and the movie industry in general have alienated me so much, I don’t really care what happens to them. Ever wonder why the movie industry isn’t asking for a “bailout”? Its because they charge $15 for a small handful of corn.
I miss the Wormwood.
Truthfully, I was told that the ‘butter’ isn’t even Becel! It’s some sort of greasy concoction that I wouldn’t let my dog eat, if I had one. That shit can’t be good. But yes, I remember a time when you got tasty popcorn with extra tasty butter on it, and I agree it sucks. I bring my own popcorn and pop….already paying 10 bux to see a movie, not willing to pay another 15 for junk food.
Movie theatre popcorn IS crappy. You’d think at like, $4 for a small size, the taste could at least be worth the money. But noooo. I remember going to the theatre at Penhorn Mall within the last few years and their popcorn was pretty decent. To me it tasted like what theatre popcorn should taste like. That may have changed by now though.I like the PC brand organic microwave popcorn or really almost any brand of organic microwave popcorn. I don’t know what they do to it, but it tastes just like when I was little and my parents would make popcorn on the stovetop for movie night. I like the previews too, but I also hate this new thing of showing car, cell phone, pop commercials before movies. It just besmirches the whole experience, to me. I see enough of that stuff watching TV, or elsewhere. But whatever, it’s their theatre, they can ruin everything if they want.
I used to work at a movie theatre, and it made me hate them more. The popcorn sucks and is too expensive, which makes it unfortunate that you have to push it to rightfully annoyed customers. When I first started they reused the night before’s popcorn the next day, which I don’t know if that’s better or worse than throwing a garbage bag-ful of it away, because staff sure isn’t allowed to have any. A little handy hint for all you movie goers however… staff (or at least me) isn’t told to police or even discourage bringing food into the theatres. 🙂
IT costs the theatre owner more for the container your popcorn comes in than it does for the product thats in it. But since almost every cent generated in ticket sales for newly released movies goes to the Studio/owners of those movies, the theatre owner has to make money somewhere. One thousand percent marked up fountain pop & popcorn is how they do it. Simple .Ex- famous players employee.
i tend to eat before the show…dinner and a movie…food first so i dont feel the need to partake in their overpriced crappy popped corn
