My boss schedules all us full-time hospital employees to work all the holidays. Won’t mention the name for fear of further punishment. This means that we get time and a half or doubletime plus a day off with pay. Can’t complain if you want the money, however there are casuals in our dept. that would appreciate the hours and there are even other full-time employees who actually want to work over thanksgiving or Christmas for the money. Alas we are not allowed to switch shifts. You would think a department head would rather pay a casual employee less than half the pay of a full timer then to put in a ‘full timer’ who will receive time and a half plus another day off with pay. This is clearly not my bosses concern however. This is your tax dollar being wasted. It would appear that our boss only cares about making our life miserable because she can. And another thing…all the years I have worked here she has never returned a phone call to any of us. We are lucky to get a response from any emails either. If we do get a response, it is weeks later. But I shouldn’t complain, only be “grateful we have a job” and know that “our department doesn’t revolve around our schedule”. Life could be so much better if we could work together and have respect.

Fed up with disrespectful boss.

  1. Since it’s our money you’re talking about aren’t you obligated to make this practice public knowledge? How about bringing this to the attention of the director (anonymously)? You show so much concern for the tax payer when anonymous… get a backbone and make a difference!

  2. I guess you are assuming they have not Kay. But given he didn’t you raise a good point.I use to work for the government, and while loose with money, most bosses know how good of a job they have and are very happy people. Too bad a good job has gone to an unappreciative person (boss not OP).

  4. I read it as they won’t mention it in this forum. However, a reasonable conclusion is that if they would not mention the name in a random forum they definetly would not mention it to their superior’s superior.

  5. I think the punishment the OP is fearing is getting scheduled for even more holidays that she doesn’t want to work, not being fired.
