Call them and make a payment arrangement. They won’t shut off your power if you make a payment arrangement as long as you HONOUR the dates that you say you will pay.
I wanted to invest in the natural gas a few years ago so the power company would have some competition, but then they made sure to buy up the controlling power, so I didn’t bother.
You know, I think sometimes that the board and power company have an ‘understanding’…that the power company presents a ridiculous hike knowing it will be knocked down so it can get what it actually wants.
it’s hard to get off the grid but it’s a long range goal for me

I said it in another recent bitch thread, but there should be procedures in place to prevent shutting off the power of people who, for whatever reason, can’t pay their bills.
I didn’t think the power company was allowed to disconnect in the winter? Must be a myth. I can’t imagine being 1 week overdue gets you a disconnect notice either.
Pay for bills on time, or set up your NS Power account for autopay. It’s not that complicated.
You use – you pay. Does anyone not make a budget anymore? You need X amount for this and X amount for that. – Perhaps internet access is a luxury you surely could do without.

Ya, they’re actually pretty forgiving of a week or two, but if you have a history of not paying for months on end… then they’re try to put the fear into you to pay.

They must look at your history. After 15 years of budget billing, We mistakenly went 4 months one summer not paying. There was a notice, and some late charges, but the power was never cut. Might have to do with us usually running a surplus with NSP from auto-budget billing. Suggest you check it out, or at the least…pay your bills on time

So this happens all the time to residents of Halifax — I hope more people bitch at the utility companies!! There is no competitor… its wrong and a health hazard for anyone to go without utilities in the winter! There has to be something done with the way they handle these situations. There is obviously something wrong with their system.. when some people dont pay for months and nothing said to them and then they randomly select some people who are not that behind and threaten or actually cut them off!! I wonder who decides which ones get to keep their utilities and which ones are going to be left without?? There is no reasoning to their methods!!
And really… if there are people who cant or wont pay their bills then tack whats owing onto taxes Jesus knows we dont pay enough taxes in this province!!
