In Juno tower, on August 9th, two of the best friends I’ve ever had were married. The ceremony was beautiful. The dance between husband and wife was wonderful, and brought tears to our eyes. The staff was friendly and fun. We had a great time celebrating the love of two people we all appreciate. Then, around 11:30pm, we began to call it a night, and started to head home.

It was around that time, when one of the security guards decided he needed more respect.

What do I mean by that?

The celebration itself was in Juno tower. After the celebrations, I headed down with the groom’s father and daughter for a ride home. We began to head for the southern exit onto Gottingen. There was a cab entering the main entrance, so it was a bit hard to see with his headlights on. Well, one of the security guards stopped us as we headed for the exit and asked the driver, the groom’s father, if he’d been drinking. It was hard to tell if that’s what he said at first, because all of his sentences came out as one word: “Haveyoubeendrinkingtonight?”. I had to decode what he’d said before it registered. The answer was no, either way. The guard was, in tone and posture, incredibly rude. I’m not exaggerating when I say that he was difficult to understand – every sentence came out as if it was just one individual word.

So this security guy asked if we knew that admiral’s way was a one way street (despite it being dark with a cab’s light in our eyes). No, we hadn’t realized that. License and registration please. Well, it was in the car that left before us because we all left in separate vehicles. So we had to have a car come back to bring us this his license, and well after showing it to the MP in question he decided to have a 20-odd minute conversation with another MP right in front of us while sitting in his car, leaving us to wait. Later, he came back with a $176 dollar ticket for going, what, 7 meters up a street that we couldn’t see the signs for? He wasn’t willing to discuss it at all, and when asked why he would do this he didn’t answer, he just rolled over us with “Under article so-and-so of the blah-blah”.

I would say that this was the law, and the man was in the right, but it wasn’t about him, and we weren’t doing a mote of harm. When the license was shown to the MP, his exact sentence, and I repeat “exact” was “There you go sir, you did it”, referring to having his wife bring his license from the other car after leaving the wedding. His tone, the entire time, was downright superior and nasty. We had done nothing wrong, the driver had not been drinking, and we’d gone a small ways up an empty street.

So for this, we are held back, charged a large amount of money, and had to be polite to an *extremely* rude MP.

To the MP in question – who’s name I intentionally memorized and will not reveal – my question is: why? Why would you stop people enjoying one of the most beautiful moments of their lives for this? Why would, upon a lovely 20 year old woman leaving the car to ask you why we were being held, tell her that she should remain in the car “For her own safety” (implying that *you* would harm her?).

Is this how Stadcona wants to present itself? I have never, in my life, encountered something like this.

Expect phone calls and emails from quite a few of us tomorrow. Your behaviour and attitude makes me sick. —Victims of Your Poor Self Esteem

  1. While the guard sounds a bit rude (I used to work at Stad and they can be a bit ‘yelly’), the groom’s father violated the law- drove up the wrong street and didn’t have his license with him. Just because you had a nice evening and just because his kid got married doesn’t mean he can drive without his license with him and can’t fucking pull over whilst the taxi drove by with his lights. If he couldn’t see the posted signs, how was he going to see the roadway or possibly someone walking down the roadway or crossing, etc….

Fuck sakes there’s no such thing as breaking the law a little.

I’d’ve given him a ticket for not being more careful and waiting for the cab’s lights to stop shining in his eyes before proceeding in his vehicle.

Ticket deserved. No excuse for not having your license on you while you’re operating a motor vehicle and no excuse for not exercising caution in dangerous driving conditions, no matter where you are.

  2. My dad didn’t call them Meatheads for nothing. Glad to hear nothing has changed in the past 40 years, ha ha.

  3. So you were going the wrong way on a one way street and didn’t have your licence and somehow that’s the MP’s fault? Sorry, you have SET Syndrome.

  4. op, so glad the wedding was lovely but the world does not stop because of your event. y’all don’t get a pass as you float blissfully through time and space. come back to earth. you know darn well if someone else tried the same and it rained on your parade you’d be bitching up a storm.

  5. Hmmmmmmm? Dilemma…. Dilemma….

Ivan’s trademark, knee-jerk, unconditional defence of military and law enforcement vs. Ivan’s 2+ decades living in P.M.Q.s
That is a dilly of a pickle.
    I wonder what’s for supper……

  6. OB was obviously in the wrong, it goes without saying (except on LTWWB, sigh), but it doesn’t mean the MP’s had to be pricks, they have some leeway, and don’t say they don’t, all peace officers do. Powr empee, hawd to wok the night shift. Next time don’t get caught banging the RSM’s daughter. Duh.

  7. Remember, you only have the OBs word for it and he is still ticked off, so there may just be a wee bit of exaggeration to bolster his bitch.

  8. my vote is that op is female. it has that whining, OMG!!! valley girl hyperbole valley girl to it.
lol, I remember an incident at a public park. big family gathering (not my group, I was at the next bbq pit) and park guard asked the group to put away the booze. some git jumped up and launched a human rights tirade about the peoples cultural right to have wine at their meals because they were Italian. the ‘real’ Italians quietly put their bottles away because, being immigrants, they were we law abiding. but girlie, who was a WASP married into the clan, kept poking her manicured finger at the guard and spitting. her inlaws finally hauled her off. I know all the details because she was screeching them at full volume. op sounds cut from the same cloth. abrasive.

  9. We’ve done nothing wrong. Hahaha, you were driving the wrong way on a one-way street for starters. The lights of a taxi were shining in your eyes. Get over it and accept the fact you were in the wrong. Oh, the wedding was ruined. How so? The wedding was OVER and the marriage already consummated at this point so let it go, breathe deeply, find your center, focus on the ceremony and not the fact you didn’t catch the bouquet.

  10. First of all the MP’s only job is to fuck up your good time. They serve no real purpose peroid. Second if you are unfamiliar with the base it would be easy to get lost and drive down a one way street the wrong way many “roads” on base are unmarked, and the base is a maze of engerneering retardedness. And lastly again back to the MP’s they look for any reason to issue tickets, seriously any goddamn reason as a member I have had my share of MP throwdowns challenging tickets and winning. They knew there was celebrations going on so they all got together and made it their mission to shit on it, all for a check in the box and a pat on the back to make them feel like they have done a public service. Oh and STEPHEN HARPER IS THE MOTHERFUCKING DEVIL, MP’s are not heros in uniform every other member will tell you MP’s are the enemy in sheeps clothing. The only people who like MP’s are MP’s

  11. The only people douchier than MP’s are SIU. Everybody knows that, why people are jumping on the OB is beyond me.

  12. Yes, they are assholes, cranky (I used to work at Stad and got fucking screamed at one day for not walking on the right side of the side of the road), but the OB comes off as expecting special treatment just because they had a good night. The driver didn’t exercise caution, committed driving infractions and got a fine because of it. Suck it up and deal with it!

If OB had’ve actually owned up to the fact that they were in the wrong but the guy didn’t have to be such an asshole, I would’ve totally been PRO-OB.
