Dear friends and family from out of town,
Please don’t come visit me from December 15th until March 15th. I have a parking spot at my work, but my car is in it, and there will be nowhere for you to park. Fecking HRM Parking BAN!!! I hate you. —Down with Winter Parking Ban!!
This article appears in Nov 25 – Dec 1, 2010.

oh GOD here we go again.
If parking is such an issue, go live somewhere where there’s parking. Not HRM’s fault you chose to live in a dwelling without parking.
“Fecking” – is this you Painey?
what are your options if you’re from out of town visiting though? I didn’t really think of that one before… maybe parking at a grocery store or some random parking lot…
Is halifax the only city in Canada with a winter parking ban? I think not. It’s a part of living in a climate where there is winter and bad weather.
Driveways don’t disappear in the winter. There are the exact number of them in the winter as there are in the summer. You chose to live/work some place without a parking spot, so face up to your mistake. Enjoy the parking tickets. My friend rents out half of his driveway….makes some easy money living in South End.
I have a car that parks in front of my house all the time…I think he works with one of my neighbours but travels for 3-5 days in a row….cause it’s there morning through night every week. I really hope he follows the parking ban because my driveway will get a huge pile of snow left in it from the plow if his cars there all the time…..and I will have it towed! F’r
no not me commander. when i first came here to look for an apt. everyone kept asking if it had parking. i was who cares i’ll just get a parking permit. then i discovered why, we have a house with a driveway now^^
Winter parking ban complaint #14759
Fuuuuuuuuuuuuck ooooooooooooff, OP
fucking christ, winter isn’t even officially here yet, and what do we have today, a fucking winter parking bitch. give your car up and fucking bus you tool.
The most wonderful time of the year….parking ban bitches on the bitch board.
If councillor Dawn Sloane gets her way, parking will be paid everywhere in the downtown, even residential streets! So you’ll get a ticket every day of the year, not just winter. But she wants to get rid of the Winter ban because it’s a cash grab…and thinks eliminating all free parking will help make the downtown more appealing.
I’m not against the *idea* of a winter parking ban, I’m just not fond of Halifax’s particular implementation of it. Maybe if we had a system where the streets only need to be clear if there’s predicted snowfall in the 24 hours? Maybe all the local daily papers could have a little section somewhere that says whether or not you’re allowed to park on the street that night? Just a thought, really. Note: I do not own a car nor do I plan to own one anytime in the near future.
The ban is a blatant cash grab. The self-righteous morons will trot out their weak-ass arguments to support the ban again this year. Too bad you’re all wrong. The only way you should be ticketed is if you actually impede snow removal. Ticketing cars on warm nights with no chance of snow is just like stealing.
I say park on the street but don’t bitch when your vehicle is on your lawn or sidewalk when the plow pushes it out of the way and you have thousands of dollars damage.
Yeah the media could advertise it but there will be morons who’ll say “I didn’t hear there was a ban today”>
No winter parking ban that I know of here in Edmonton, and we already have about half a foot of snow here. The streets don’t get plowed nearly as well, though – the gross brown and black snow is just left to build up along the sides of the road, and overall I don’t think we get as much snow as Halifax either. But if you’re looking for a place without an annoying winter parking ban, come to Edmonton!
