To the residents of Victoria St:

Parking in this city is a bitch. Two hour parking in residential areas means that when I don’t get called into work, I have to move my car throughout the day. Usually, I have no problem with that and gladly drive around, wasting gas until I can find a free spot to hold me over for another two hours.

Today, I was ill. I didn’t wake up until 10:20, and didn’t get outside to move my car until closer to 11. I realized that I was flirting with a ticket, so I booked it.

Seeing the piece of paper on my windshield, I was crestfallen. “A ticket,” I thought, “but I’m an underemployed young woman, and it’s so close to Christmas.”

As I neared the car, I saw that it wasn’t a ticket, but a piece of folded paper! “A Christmas miracle!” I thought. Until I read it.

Thanks for reporting my license plate number to parking enforcement for exceeding the two hour time limit, “residents of Victoria St.” That’s real nice and neighbourly of you. I’m sorry my car offends you so much, and I’m sorry that you have such black, shriveled-up hearts.

Merry F*cking Christmas. —Nobody Likes A Narc

  1. Still, it’s nice to see the public co-operating with law enforcement to help solve major crimes. >; )

Now Halifax, how about dropping a dime on some of the murderers walking the streets. Line up, no pushing, there are plenty to go around.

  2. That’s bullshit. HRM has a security company on the payroll whose job it is to walk around timing how long cars are parked and issue tickets to the offenders. Duh.

  3. Wow, I can’t imagine caring so much about something like this to report it… You have asshole neighbours, sunshine. Hope you feel better soon.

  4. You know the person who reported it sat and looked out their window for two hours and had the police on speed dial

  5. at least with a ticket, you could have just left the car there all day…
that’d cheese the busy body who reported you off….
especially if you went to your car, took some stuff out of the glove compartment and went back home… all the while them steadily watching your every move.

I had one of those in my last building.
I was moving in and the whole front of the building was a fire lane.
I parked there, brought a box up to my place, drank a glass of milk and by the time I went back down there was a note informing me that at NO time should anyone park there…

    cucking funt

  6. You can park on Kent st for no specified time limit, except on Wednesday when they do street cleaning in the wee hours. Hope this helps as it’s not too far away from Victoria st 🙂

  7. She can call all she wants and report your plate, if the Securitassholes don’t actually see your car violating the 2-hr time limit then they can’t justify the ticket. If you do get one, go to traffic court and contest it. I’ve contested tickets and the judge was in my favor.

Next week, spy on your car near the 2 hour mark and see is that tool puts another note on your car and confront them…

  8. This has nothing to do with Christmas. Christmas is on December 25. Do you not have to follow the law because we are in a few months of Christmas?
Get a grip, ownership has its privileges and its responsibility.

  9. Ok, I think I mis-read. Someone put a note on your car saying they reported you to HRM Parking Enforcement? Certainly a douche move. Don’t worry about it.

  10. The underlying factor here is the lack of parking in the downtown core and the south end. The biggest thing that baffles me is why the hospitals cannot provide parking for their employees. Apparently, all of this limited time parking on south end streets has a lot to do with hospital workers needing a place to park. Seems like a real easy solution to me, have the hospitals create their own parking for employees only

  11. The parking ban begins on Dec 15th. Hope you find a parking spot by then. It’s funny how you choose to move there and then when winter approaches all the driveways up and fly down South. Did you not notice there was no driveway when you moved in? Enjoy the tickets. The city can use the extra revenue.

  12. So you never had a ticket? just a note saying your car was reported? Then I don’t think they can just send you a ticket in the mail because a neighbour said so. Just be extra careful with your 2 hour limit next time.

  13. Bundy’s right — their word against yours. If you get a ticket go to court to fight it.

On another note — why do people choose to live in areas where they know parking is an issue then complain about not having a place to park (not necessarily you, OP, but there are people out there who bitch about this sort of thing)? There are plenty of places where parking is included (or for a fee)…and there are places you can rent to park if you live in the city core…and if you really can’t afford that, you can’t really afford your car. Same with people bitching about snow tires. Cars require more money than just car payments and gas…maintenance, insurance, etc…all need to be factored in.

  14. Fight every ticket. Make ‘easy money’ into ‘hard money’.
Waste their time and make them fight for every dollar.

  15. Ah, the Victoria Street musical parking spots game…no fun at all, and so pointless in the end.

Making people shuffle around doesn’t change a thing. How could another Victoria Street resident not know that?

  16. Never mind building a convention centre, slap up a fucking huge multi-level parking garage – a few conditions, it must be ugly as all fuck (The Bay parking garage as an example), and it has to completely obliterate the view from the hill, has to have a platform on the top floor to throw swarmers off and a splat strip for them to land on kisser first as they are forced to listen to the theme tune of Corrie…..

  17. There is a councilor that wants to make parking on residential streets in the downtown ALL paid parking and in the same breath thinks the parking ban is a “cash grab”…I don’t get it and I hate her :). Having to pay/get tickets every single day is less of a cash grab than a winter ban? Ookay.

  18. Was it by any chance nearby the seniors apartment building? There’s some nosy weirdos in that building.

  19. Me thinks there may be more to this story than told by the poster. Either the person who left this note is a very sad busy-body or the poster is neglecting to mention her past parking infractions. As the poster seems to think that she is entitled to free on street parking perhaps she has neglected to mention past indulgences??????????
