Nova Scotia is truly a beautiful province. There are wonderful vistas and picture postcard towns around every turn. We truly are blessed that our government proudly promotes our natural resources worldwide as a tourist destination. If those tourists knew the reality…it’s a false paradise.

On a day when an African American speaks to 200,000 Berliners about the need for real change, Nova Scotia remains a xenophobic, homophobic, racist land that time forgot.

Like it or not this is a society frozen in a horrible 1960’s pre-civil rights time warp. We live in a place where our largest employers don’t hire minorities. Halifax is a city where immigration was never sustainable or welcomed. It’s a place where public sector workers (cops, bus drivers, social workers, etc…) entrusted with our safety and essential services dish out discrimination and ignorance on a daily basis.

Today when Obama spoke in Berlin about that city he said – “This city, of all cities, knows the dream of freedom. And you know that the only reason we stand here tonight is because men and women from both of our nations came together to work, and struggle, and sacrifice for that better life.”

No more bitching, its time to make changes, for action….who is with me???

I am you

  1. Looks some somebody’s really overidentifying with the Obama speech givin’ abilities and mistakin’ it for… something else. Something you’re not likely to find splayed across tv screens in the US anytime soon. I have this weird feeling that genuine political and social change comes less from a source this polished and sophisticated and right and shiny, but from a source with a little more grit, and inappropriate for television audiences.

  2. God I hope not… bad enough he who shall remain nameless is back. If people on the bitch board start trying to change the world, I’m outta here.

  3. wait he who shall remain nameless is back? geez get busy at work and I miss everything….and yeah. this is so not the place for a call to arms. This is a place to grumble and back talk and whine and generally achieve nothing. that’s the fun. I save my world saving for non work hours, thanks.

  4. No disguise. It made a brief appearance. That’s what it does. Has a big, weird meltdown, slinks of for a couple of weeks, and returns gradually, as if to test the waters – hoping we forgot he went totally schizo, then one day, BAM! Full on google, wiki, long winded madness.I’m not looking forward to it – it was a really nice 2 weeks.
