How are we able to entice AC/DC to come to Halifax instead of Sir Paul McCartney? I mean come on, if a band can top the Stones, then it has to be AC/DC. There is a group on Facebook who want them to come too, its not too late!

I loved UHF. I still love Weird Al.Maybe he can play the Commons instead. That would be cool.
Picked up a UHF DVD for $5 at F-Shop last fall. Hokey in parts, it’s still got more laughs than most of the shit you seen on screen these days. It also shows a very young Michael Richards before his Kramer days. Also got the original Batman DVD from the mid-60s. Frigging camp from beginning to end, no brooding dark hero here. Best part: Batman hanging from a helicopter ladder with a rubber shark ‘eating’ his leg while he yells: ‘Robin, throw up the Bat-Shark Repellent!’
The fire hose scene is still one of my favorite sight gags of all time.
I’d go see Weird Al anywhere, anytime. Also, the Proclaimers are coming to town. I’d walk five hundred miles to see them.
AC/DC over the Mozart of the 20th century? Get fucking real.
The Mozart of the 20th Century is coming to town? Finally, all my prayers have been answered: Weird Al Yankovic is coming here.
Thanks for the yuk, Mort. Maybe it’s just the old boomer in me but Paul Fucking McCartney was a member of the friggin’ Beatles, the biggest rock band EVER! (I must admit tho that I’d like to see AC/DC AND Weird Al too…’UHF’ RULES!)
OMG, somebody else actually watched UHF?!?
The Beatles? Weren’t they those shaggy-haired British lads who did a pale imitation of the Monkees?
Michael Richards was the best part of UHF
Michael Richards is the best part of anything he’s ever been involved in. Including the “Crazy Racist Freak Out Club”.
Anybody remember Michael Richards from Fridays, the old ABC sketch comedy? He was also in the movie Young Doctors in Love.
Didn’t Michael Richards and Andy Kaufman get into it on a ‘Fridays’ sketch when Andy wouldn’t do a pot joke? It was a great show, just like ‘the Edge’ in the early 90s. Favorite joke from the Edge: Buzzing around a yard from a fly’s perspective with this high-pitched little voice screeching: ‘Where’s the feces? Where’s the feces?’ I’m sure poop would appreciate the joke.
Whether its SIR PAUL, Weird Al, AC/DC or Michael Richards, I just hope the clowns that claim to be running this city, don’t fuck it up like they appear to have done with just about everything else they had their hands on in the past couple of years… Can you imagine that we missed out THE WHO because of the gross incompetence of these guys, stepping on each others toes and getting in each others way… City council stay the fuck out of it, tend to your cat laws, and let the concert promoters do their job…Rock on Paul… Should be a wicked amazing show… Can’t wait…
Dinosaurs all of ’em.Why isn’t anyone trying to get someone modern and relevant to play the commons?Surely there are some modern acts that would be as big a draw as some of these nostalgia acts. This part of the country is so stuck in the 80s headbanger mode.*sigh*
We’ve been stuck in the 80’s so long it’s almost cool again!!Go tapered jeans and sweater belts!!!
Very true. But it’s only cool if it’s new, not if we’re still wearing the same stuff from last time around. LOL Everybody knows that guy – the one who still wears high top sneakers and 3/4 arm baseball shirts and has a heavy metal hairdo. So fuckin’ cool, rock on dude! And THAT’s the guy who wants AC/DC to come to town.Who do the kids in Nouveau-80s wear want to come to town I wonder?
Actually, I was kind of more stuck in the 70’s… Truly a period of renaissance in the history of modern music…Just wondering Jammie, if you could name a few “modern and relevant” acts that could actually draw a worthwhile number to the commons…
You ask a very good question Floyd, and unfortunately on second thought, I don’t know if any modern and relevant acts COULD draw 50,000 in Halifax, because the general population here listens to the dreck on Q104 or C100.
How about Radiohead? U2 are not exactly new but they are still relevant. The RHCP would draw a big crowd as could Pearl Jam. How about a reformed Rage Against the Machine? Gotta admit though I’m pretty happy if a McCartney show comes to fruition. If there is a strong enough cast of opening bands I think these shows would do very well.
