You may also have facial piercings and left-wing political tattoos, or at least left-wing political patches haphazardly sewed to your clothes.
You are likely vegan but definitely vegetarian, and you only buy fair-trade locally grown organic foods whenever possible.
You are found at the Farmer’s Market on Saturdays.
You read the Coast and listen to CKDU like they are gospel, and hung out at One World Cafe when it was still open.
You are involved in Food Not Bombs, HCAP, or some other left-wing hippy loser organization.
You’re a bunch of pretentious fucks who (secretly) think you’re sooooo cool and sooooo different but you are all the exact fucking same! You people have ruined this city’s true charm and character, so please go the fuck back to Ontario or Alberta or BC or whatever horribly materialistic place you came from and please don’t come back. I live in the north end of Halifax, and i see these types every single day. To me, it’s a lot better than having a neighborhood full of thugs and criminals, (which i’m certain there are some), but i’d rather walk down the street and pass these people than some menacing thug. I have to agree with the OP, though..it is a little obnoxious. The most annoying part about these people is the fact that they think they’re not conforming to any real stereotype or trend, when in fact they are just one giant monstrosity of a cliche.
Aside from the pretentious part, how can any of the things listed really make you hate a group that much? I mean I’m not a big hippy fan and I think anyone trying to be an “individual” by trying to be extreme or weird is naive and really just conforming to fit a different mold, but I don’t hete ’em for it. Most artsy hippy-dippy tree-hugging indie music loving granolas are nice people….a little weird….but nice. So, what’s the real problem here? There are other elements associated with the North End that are not so nice, be thankful its hippy-wannabees and not just gangsta wannabes. And before I get slagged for bashing the North End, my comments were not meant to knock all the other decent North enders that make it a great and vibrant community. Just trying to offer perspective…North End Rocks and/or Rolls!
Gus’ Pub does hire indie/alternative bands so it would follow that’s the crowd that bar will attract. While I agree that posers are annoying, I must side with poop on this one. I used to work on Agricola street when it was full of nasties and was a very dangerous place to walk after dark. At least it’s an improvement from that perspective. I love that ‘one giant monstrosity of a cliche’ comment, poop. It’s so true.

These folks are the new yuppies! Has anyone seen that Miller light commercial featuring the young hippy guy carrying his 6 pack in a little basket attached to his rickety Marry Poppins bike? Advertising caters to this type now, they’re everywhere on tv. I dont have a problem with it, as long as they realize there is nothing that sets them above or makes them unique by wearing worn out, undersized courdroy blazers and mismatched socks. Sure, we might wear clothes from Club Monaco or Banana Republic…but some of us still got A’s in art class!
