To all you smokers out there who insist on tossing your butts on the ground, think again. Who gives you the right to dirty our green spaces, business entrances, bus stops and parking lots? Don’t give me any crap about no place to throw them because if you really cared, you’d canvass for more cigarette butt receptors. And if you really, really cared, maybe you would even use your bloody car ashtray. I can’t wait to find out where you all live because I’ll be the first to come to your house and spit out my gum on your front doorstep (instead of respectfully disposing of it as I now do).

When camping or in situations where it is otherwise uncool to litter you can always strip away the tobacco and paper from the butt and pocket the non-biodegradable filter. If you are a heavy smoker you can always bring along a bag or a tin to put your butts in so your pockets don’t reek.
I suppose you’re the asshat that accused me of littering when I stomped out my smoke before throwing it in the trash. I loved that since I couldn’t win. Leave it on the ground I’m littering, stomp it out to throw out I’m accused of littering. Throw it lit into the trash and I’m an arsonist.I applaud Dalhousie and the HRM in downtown for at least providing public ashtrays, makes things easier for me. Jane, not sure if your environment and tree hugger comments were directed at me or not, but it is not that throwing cigarette butts on the ground is so environmentally unfriendly that is the major problem. The reason to not litter with your cigarette butts is that they don’t just go “away” they stay there until someone, usually not the smoker, picks them up. It is rude and annoying. Chewing gum is worse because it usually ends up on the bottom of someone’s shoe. I agree that smokers get a lot of grief thrown their way, but maybe it isn’t always without reason. Times have changed and smokers can’t get away with things they used to becuase they are either in a minority or smoking just isn’t as cool as it once was. I thought the white trash title was a pun on the colour of the butts more than anything, but if it was meant at face value, it is also off side like you said Jane.
There are butt holders in the downtown area i suggest using them. Would you do this in your place, office, home etc? I thought not. So why do it where other people have to look at your disgusting habbit? I agree with the OP.
i do apologize for swearing.and i didnt relise your title was a pun that and stating you are going to put gum on ppls door steps togther seems like you were trying to be nasty.Where i smoke (downtown, home school work) we have butt out stops which i use i am a smoker and proud of it and i do agree ppl shouldnt just throw butts everywhere it is sick especially to see ppl pick them up and smoke them (thats where ppl get hep c from) i am just sick and tired of ppl blaming smokers for everything aswell as people bitching about smokers we are the new “minority” which is not kool i am a as good as a smoker gets i do NOT smoke around children or in places where alot of non smokers are and i do NOT smoke in bus shelters nor do i throw my buts on the ground

I’m actually considering getting two metal cig holders now, one for the cigs, and one for the butts. However my original post still stands, no matter what I try to do to dispose of the cigarettes I’m a bad guy. “Why did you throw that on the ground, think of the environment”I swear one day I’m gonna answer back “To put it out idiot, I don’t want the garbage or ME to catch on fire when I dispose of it”

Fifthly habit all around. I speak from experience as a past smoker. i applaud you folks who rid the butts respectively. I hate see the rest of the smokers tossing them away like they don’t care. That makes me sick.
