Alright, I know working drive thru at McDonalds must really suck but does that also mean you must deliver the worst customer service out there? (I’m talking about you Mcdonald’s on Nantucket) Whenever I go through I hope that maybe just this once someone will atleast look at me; the customer. Instead of grabbing my debit card and continuing to have non- work related gossip to their co-workers. You should really learn to love working there, with the level of respect you have for the public I assure you you’ll be working there a LONG time!

  1. You’re right, working at McDonalds DOES suck. I did it for 4 months when I was 16..that was enough! For most people, it’s a stepping stone. It’s too bad you didnt get any eye contact from the people in drive-thru, could you have had some spinach in your teeth, or maybe a smear of snot across your cheek?? I know eye-contact isnt on the menu, but smiles certainly are, and hey..they’re FREE!! Next time, just ask for onehehe

  2. there is a saying that the pen is mightier than the sword. i believe that ardently. if you feel irate, and perharps, justifably so, there is a suggestion box in most Mac. use that voice your opinion. but be civil yet vocal . i ‘ve found head office’s pay a lot more serious attention to a complaint that is worded clearly and calmy.if all fails, get to Mac’s website and write that complaint there.you’ll be amazed at the results. get the time, place, id ,etc… as much info as you get. but , before you do that, at least, tell the people what you think directly. at least, give them a chance to realise what they did wrong.

  3. It’s pretty hard to learn to love working there when we spend all day serving asshole customers who treat us like shit and then expect to receive royal treatment. We do not exist to serve you people, that is not our sole purpose in life. Next time you go through, appreciate the fact that without those drive-thru workers, you would not be able to eat yet another disgustingly greasy burger.

  4. jennifer: I don’t expect you to love working there, but I do expect you to treat me with respect. Especially if I do the same to you. That IS your job and that is why they are always looking for “friendly” people to join their team. Any job where you have to work with people is gonna have jerks and assholes, and you can’t let that make you jaded to the rest of the world, otherwise you end up like the cantankerous bitcher you appear to have become. And we wouldn’t want that.

  5. Alright, I will elaborate… Like Miles said, respect is reciprocal, and yes, those employees are not the best examples of service McD’s has to offer. And make no mistake, I do my best to be friendly and courteous (hence my 4 years with them and promotion to manager). I guess what I meant was sometimes it is hard to maintain a certain level of courtesy when you have been faced by a long shift of customers treating you like the gum under their shoe, and you have been told in no uncertain terms that you are headed no where in life because you work at McDonald’s. We do work hard for what little money we make, and yes what little we do make is for serving people. But on the other side of the coin, if nobody chose to work in fast food (because it is a rough business), who would serve you Big Macs? Like my old store manager used to say “I can’t do it without you guys. You keep the store running.” Understand that what you see as a low-level, no-skills-required job is just the opposite.

  6. Who would serve us bigmacs if you didn’t? The next person to drop off a resume, duh. In case you don’t know, the labor force is not exactly lacking in unskilled 16 year old labor willing to work for min wage. Sorry, but your if we don’t do it no one else will holds as weight as “communism works in theory” arguments.Look, the last 4 customers may have been cocksuckers, but if I’m the 5th customer do I deserve being treated the way you should have treated those 4 before me?

  7. What McDonalds do you work at Jennifer?I worked McDonalds all thru high school, and it was the easiest job I have ever had. Obviously, In most businesses, you will have customers that treat you like shit, but I loved working there, if someone treated me like shit, I just sucked it up, and waited for the next nice customer to come along. I completely agree with Cranky. Just because some customers are asshole, doesn’t mean everybody is. So be nice.

  8. Jennifer, your explanation helps and I really do feel for anyone who has to put up with the shit some people can dole out to people in jobs they see as beneath them. But even a forced thank you from a server having a bad day goes a long way to making me feel better as a customer and might have prevented the OP from typing up his bitch.
