For the bar in Dartmouth that DIDN’T pay the DJ in full after he packed the place all night 2 weeks ago: I would just like to extend to them my middle finger! —NO $$

  1. what do you expect, it’s a fucking drinking place. pay the door, goes to the band/dj, whatever. but next time they want someone to do it, they get blackballed, and no one decent will play the tunes. been there, done it with a couple bands i used to manage. if the dj is in a union, have them file a grievence against said bar. bet there place will be pretty vacant next time around.

  2. Most DJs get paid at the end of the night. No pay, no show the next night. This is done so bars don’t try this shit. The DJ can also take the bar to Small Claims Court.

  3. This city treats musicians like shit. I did a gig once at a certain sports pub on Granville, which is deservedly closed now and at the end of the night, the only employee, the thug bartender, told me that he didn’t know anything about paying the band. I was pissed, so next day I went to have a word with the manager, and get my money. She turned it on me and said I should have been aware she only paid musicians the same time she did the rest of her employee payroll. What a crock of shit! Anyway, you’re story is not surprising OP and I hope to fuck your friend gets his money

  4. Last time I played a cabaret in Halifax I was offered free Red Bull and water, the promoter bought me a drink, then offered me 5 drink tickets, AND I was paid $100 cash at the end of my set. If you’re a bar/promoter who books talent: PAY YOUR ACTS.

  5. Do you guys mean that there’s no formal contract hashed out beforehand? Some sort of invoice? I know nothing about working in the music biz, but in my line of work I’d never agree to a job unless the time, amount, and method of payment was explicitly agreed upon on a piece of paper beforehand. At least that way if you don’t get your money you can back it up with documentation.
