We had enough of otherwise idle cops harassing the common folk by handing out speeding tickets for going somewhat over the speed limit on Quinpool Rd just off the Rotary at Horseshoe Island Park. These tickets serve no purpose other than taking money from people’s pockets, and causing feelings of hatred and disgust towards police. Rather than aggravating the common folk with purely punitive speeding tickets, police should focus their attention on the criminal elements. The duty of police is not to punish common folk for insignificant infringements of the speed limit, it is to protect them from real threats to their peace and safety.

I’m pretty sure that someone cruising along over the speed limit is a threat to my peace and safety. Yes, speeding tickets are annoying and expensive, but unsafe driving causes lost lives. Your “insignificant infringement” might just cost someone their life.
hmm…yeah i see your point Bitcher. After all, nobody CARES about the people who have been killed at the crosswalk on Quinpool due to speeders.. Nobody cares about the people on the highways who lose control of their cars due to speeding. Nobody cares about having their lives put at risk because someone decides speed limits are suggestions. What matters is having the cops do a real job instead of enforcing the law. please

When the cops are there and after a few days people get used to expecting them there I notice a real drop in the speeds of motorists as they go by. I feel a lot safer on my bike for the short time that this has taken affect. I’m sure the people living in the area feel a little better too. I wonder what it cost to replace that section of the rock wall that a speed truck destroyed?Probably haven’t given out enough tickets to cover that yet…
I grew up very close to Horseshoe Island Park and can’t begin to remember all of the accidents that occured around that bend. The one I will never forget though was a blue Geo Tracker (yes, crappy car- I know) completely destroyed, wrapped around a pole at the bottom of the curve in the road, its blue plastic strewn all over the place and the occupants either dead or extremely lucky to be alive as the vehicle was complete mush. The cops aren’t wasting their time- they’re preventing idiots who can’t get it through their thick skulls that a 2 lane road in Halifax does not mean street racing is ok. AMOCF, you might feel differently if someone you cared about was hit- like my friend was when we were crossing that crosswalk across Quinpool when we were 13. You’d probably also feel differently if someone you cared about made a split second stupid decision that cost them their life.
I love bitches like this; mad at the police for doing their jobs, but the poster would be just as pissed if a relative died there on that same section of road. Someone died there this summer, it was a motorcycle that was speeding and the driver plowed into a tree and was definitely dead, I know this because I had the wonderfully scarring and nauseating opportunity to witness the accident. The original poster is an ass that deserves to see the images that always play through my mind when I drive by the scarred tree where some selfish speeder died. Thankfully no one else was hurt…other than the witnesses…
