People of Halisux, I was unfortunate enough once again, to have to go to your city to work today. I drove by the Halisux Commons.
You know the one where so many of you freak the fuck out because there’s a concert there one week end & your ability to access the ENTIRE space has been compromised by the no good assholes who buy the tickets to see the show.

Today as I drove by , I seen huge pieces of Construction equipment, fences all over the place & “THE HORROR” they’ve dug up the grass! >GASP<

I couldn’t believe it those Bastards have dug up the sacred grass of the Commons & built fences to keep all everyone out!
Fences & destroyed Grass!
Where is the OUTRAGE? Where are all the naysayers & those who cannot live happy, content & productive lives without having full access at all times to the commons? Were they rounded up ?
Placed in concentration style camps? Are they possibly the irate swarmers, wandering around attacking innnocent people, because they have no grass to worship & there are fences in the way?
I am one rural resident who wants answers! —Morefngdbs

  1. get over yourself…..you should be outraged over graffati
,filty streets, rundown houses, beggers and thugs, but your focus is on a bit of dirt and mud…no wonder Halifax loses to Moncton..we have a wacky mayor, disfunctional council and a city falling apart..

  2. This post is complete sarcasm, and halifaxmentor, it’s completely true and poignant. Every summer there’s a concert event, you get the usual gang of negative creeps crying about lack of access to the commons. Yet, this recent monstrosity, for the sake of a 2 week event sporting event, is seemingly causing way more damage and completely cutting off a very large section of the commons. The op raises a great question, where all the common lovers now? Fucking typical…

  3. I was honestly taken back when I went by. As one of the crew who help build the stages etc. for these outdoor events, I know we do some damage, but we sure as hell aren’t in there with excavators & Bulldozers !

The fact that it is that torn up & not one of the usual suspects who rail against their lack of access, the trouble to go around fenced areas, the huge crowds that ruin their peaceful neighborhood & the ballplayers cries of outrage that we have dared to interupt their game time!
Yet I have not seen 1 bit of mention of what’s going on there, until I decided to bring it out .
    -stir-stir-stir ~;p

  4. just be glad it’s happening there, and not on your lawn. but hold on awhile, i’m sure they’ll want your land next. they gotta make more stupid hiways and exchannges, that do nothing to relieve any traffic.

  5. I think there’s a few reasons why people aren’t bitching about the rink or whatever it is they’re building there. Firstly, it’s fall now, so people don’t care as much about having access to the Commons. Secondly, in the past year or so, it’s been revealed that the concerts on the Commons are more or less a money-losing venture. But that’s just my opinion.

  6. Maybe the peeps who are in love with the commons are also in love with the fact that we have an outdoor skating rink for public use for the winter… which is why the grass is dug up and the fences are around. Yes, it is initially for the Canada Games, but we get to use it before and after. Plus it won’t make as much noise as Kid Rock.

  7. Sorry RealChick…but it truely does.
I used to live there & would never move back for love or money…or even love of money !
As for winter skating…am I the only one who’s noticed that we have some pretty mild winter weather. Sure we get freezing conditions, but its just as likely to be rainy the next day…would be a idea to record just how many days the ‘rink is actually open/frozen.
Plus wasn’t there a couple of baseball feilds in that footprint ?
Although to be fair I’ve often wondered what baseball would be like played on a frozen surface with skates !
OR as my lover has mentioned…maybe it really is a new concrete pad, for ice skating & concerts ~:o

  8. as if batting weren’t difficult enough, now you want us on skates?
    yeesh.
a double would turn into a homer though if you could get going at a decent clip….
just for the love of god don’t slide into the plate.

  9. Plus it’s a not-for-profit event. The spirit of the event is different, and everyone can partake in it. No company is making or taking hrm money, yo. It’s waaaaay different. Plus, like others said, its fall.

  10. No ones taking HRM money sarey….are you fucking kidding me !
WHo do you thinks paying for all the equipment, supplies & man power ?
    THe keebler elves ?
That’s our tax dollars paying the bill, give your obviously empty head a shake !
THere’s all kinds of HRM money being spent….& if the rink is being removed after the games….ITS FUCKING BEING WASTED !.
BUt you like so many other idiots (all of them in different levels of Government)believe the wasting of tax dollars is no problem, just raise taxes yet again.
Another perfect reason to be out in the country, where property taxes are 1/10 of what they are in halisuxs !

  11. lovin the new avatar donkey dearest…i have tried with the skating many times i progress to a certain level then that’s it. i just never got the feeling

  12. I love to skate and outdoors is best… Ottawa, Montreal, they have lovely outdoor rinks. I think it’ll be great to skate on the Commons. I’ll be there… because there will be times where it’s open to the public. Why not take advantage if they’re spending so much of our $$?? *mouse ears*. It’s one of the activities that makes winter bearable.

  13. don’t get too excited. i worry about what type of rink and whether the temperatures will be cold enough. there are lots of indoor rinks they usually have open skates but there is a fee

  14. There’s lots of technology available for having outdoor rinks well past the normals season (ya, it costs, but I’m sure HRM is footing that bill). It’s kind of neat. So I think we’ll get a chance, and even for a fee, it’s a fun winter thing to do – and cheaper than a ski hill!

  15. It’s another photo op for Kelly. I wish they were building a mass hangmans platform so we could all pay to watch as they hung the fucking swarmers. I’d pay to see that, I’d pay even more to pull the lever.

  16. You’re right ralmn, HRM is probably footing the bill, which means WE are. Just like this new convention centre to the tune of $160 million. There’s empty office space in downtown Hal, and they want us to pay for more!

  17. But BRoc….then we’d have 2 convention centres just a block apart.
Like bookends on an empty shelf !
    What a joke.
If there’s so much NEED for a new Convention Centre, let some outside company build it.
I cannot understand why our tax dollars have to be used for a special interest like that.

Just out of curiosity, how many of you have been to a convention this year ?
How about in the last 5 years ?
I attend at least 1 a year. Usually more & the last one I was at was in Winnepeg & it wasn’t even held at a convention hall, it was held at a Large Hotel.
THe CITT convention here this past august in Halifax was in various venue’s on the Penninsula & the dinner awards was down on Pier 22, which I attended.
We didn’t need the Convention Centre we have now !
