It’s been almost 2 years since the by-law went into effect and everyday there are still lots of smokers standing at the bus stops blowing their bad habit into my face. Now there are some who try to stand down wind but there are many more that are lighting up even as they step off the buses. They don’t care that their smoke is blowing into my face and lungs.
I’m allergic so I feel as if I can’t breathe (which I can’t) and as if thousands of little knives are stabbing into my chest as I try to breathe. Yet nowhere is there anyone charging these people with breaking the law. A little sign that most people hardly see won’t stop the smokers.
What will it take to change things? Will it be me (or someone else who is allergic) collasping because I can’t breathe and dying? I hope not.
I understand smoking is an addiction. However manners can be used and smokers can either move away from the terminals or move downwind if they really can’t wait to get where ever they are going.

You must really enjoy the diesel fumes then.
One single cigarette OUTDOORS can NOT possibly have that much effect on your “poor little lungs”. Get real. You’re exaggerating, big time.Stand on the other side or move ten feet away. You’re not going tomiss the bus if you’re only ten feet away.Top-Two WELL OVER-BITCHED topics EVER: Metro Transit, ANDsmoking. Why can’t people bitch about interesting things moreoften? This is too unoriginal.
Maybe about thirty people heaving out every last drag of their smokeon the exhale. Directly in your face. That will more likely be aspainful as one thousand knives.
i may be wrong in this…god knows i have been wrong before. tobacco smoke is not an allergen. i believe it is more an irritant which causes symptoms similiar to an allergic reaction. any medication designed to reduce allergy symptoms will not help your “smoke allergy”.you may also find you are sensitive to perfumes, strong odors, spicy foods and even weather or temperature changes. so before you blame smokers for everything (like the rest of the non smoking world does) you might try changing the weather.
This horse has been beaten to death, run over by steamrollers and drawn and quartered by a fleet of Jeep Cheokes already. Go buy yourself a car if the smoke pains you that much.
OP, you’re probably just one of “those people” who are obsessed with every rule and by-law there is…. let……… it…….. go………..
If you have a serious fear of collapsing and dying, and it sounds like you do, bylaws and strangers are the least of your concerns. You need a dust mask when you leave the house, because your allergies sound like they cause you an incredible amount of pain. Maybe a chat with your doctor who could educate you better on how to protect yourself from these allergens, and a therapist who will help you understand that there is very little chance that smokers on the street are deliberately trying to make you suffer, or kill you.
As much as I don’t like smoking at bus terminals, if you look around, there’s either nowhere else to smoke where you won’t miss your bus, or there’s a smoke free spot 10 feet away you can easily walk to.
Maybe if they put in “smoking huts” at bus terminals people would be more inclined to not bother others with their smoke. Remember those glass enclosures they used to have at Tim Hortons before smoking was completely banned from indoor places? Something like that.I don’t generally have an issue with smokers at bus stops unless they’re doing it in the shelter (which has happens WAY too often — usually in bad weather), or they say in one fucking place. A lot of non smokers will stand away from the smokers and everything’s fine until they (the smokers) decide to move all over the place, thus making us move all over the place. Srsly fuck off and stay in one place and have a little respect for those of use who choose not to fill their lungs with cancer-stick smoke.
did you know that there are 13 potentially cancer causing substances in coffee? interesting fact.
“did you know that there are 13 potentially cancer causing substances in coffee? interesting fact”What? i never knew that
I too have been bothered by smokers at bus stops. Smoking is gross in general, most smokers I know will admit that themselves. It really isn’t much fun when someone comes up right beside you and lights up. Especially if it is raining and you are in the only sheltered area.
