I just want to respond to the recent results of the Best of Halifax…who are the people that vote for these categories?? For example: Best Shoe Store: Kick Ass Shoes…are you crazy??? have you ever been in that store??? The customer service is the worst i’ve ever experienced and the selection isn’t anything to write home about either…does this store always win because the owner’s cousin works at The Coast?? Come on! and Best Tailor: Daniels Tailors…anything i`ve ever taken to him has been ruined beyond fixing and he`ll gouge you for everything your worth!! I think there needs to be a re-count

No one here in the editorial office (the guide was written by our special issues editor Carsten Knox) has any idea who the owner of Kick Ass Shoes is, much less who his/her cousin is.
Steve Smurfy – best anchor???? Are the people in this town fucking braindead to pick this egotistical little troll, especially after the Stephane Dion fiasco???? I would like to dwarf toss that little fucker into the Bay of Fundy and let him swim back to Saint J.
See, there you go; if I had any say in it, Steve would never get an award. Obviously, I don’t have any say… same with every other “Best of”— people vote however people vote, we don’t change the results.
It GUIDES you to the Best of Halifax, it doesn’t drive you there and force you to spend time or money.
The whole “Best of” thing is a total farce. Look at the winners and runners-up: Dawn Sloane, Mayjor Doofus, Howard Epstein, Bousquet, Bobby Mac, Candy Palmeter, the HCAP criminals, … cripes. Can the Coast possibly pick anything worse than these?Total rubbish.
TTFN: Steve Murphy is definately the best anchor. I think he’s very sexy to be honest as well, I know no many people agree on his attractiveness. I love him!
Having heard the Smurf on the radio… where he “started his career”… he actually sounds like an okay guy…But anytime I see him on TV, he has this smug look on his face… Like the cat and proverbial canary… The Murphy-Dion affair really needs a closer look by responsible journalists such as CNN’s Reliable Sources… And if the Steve-ador wants to salvage anything at all of his credibility, then he really needs to come out and tell his side of the story right now…Exactly what happened that caused you to reneg on your agreement to leave the restarts and out-takes on the edit room floor…?? As the perennial winner of the Coast best anchor award YOU owe it to us at least THAT much…I ‘d bet cash that you read this stuff Steve, so the ball’s in your court… Set the record straight… Do the right thing…
The Best of Halifax is the same ol’ every year. Apparently The Coast has an old boys club of its own … If this is truly the best of Halifax, then we really do suck.
Kick Ass Shoes definitely wins for worst customer service, I really believe they are told to ignore he customers, but that being said they are one of the closer things to high end that we have in Halifax. I prefer John David’s, where the peeps are actually nice, but atleast kick ass carries some lines you won’t find anywhere else.

Now that people mention it, yeah, wtf is with your political and restaurant pics? There’s no way in hell Sloane should even remotely be associated with “best of” anything other than “best resembling a Palin-esque cockroach running on voter apathy and dumb luck”, and The Ardmore? Pancakes, maybe, but come-ON. The furniture itself is 1000 years old, and the sausages aren’t much younger. Just be honest and call it Best of poor-ass student bohemians who don’t know there’s a sweeter side of life in town.
The Coast does not pick these winners. It is a readers’ survey, which means Halifax (our readers) decides the winners. I spent over a week straight tabulating these votes to ensure that every category was tabulated properly. It is a lot of work. We just report the results.
Well that’s not saying much for the taste of The Coast’s readers. So much for alternative.
You guys are all wack. Don’t read the best of if you hate it so much. And as far as ” poor-ass student bohemians” goes, who the fuck do you think reads the coast? Executives? Doctors? no. poor students, cuz this is a poor town with too many schools. dumbass.ps: the ardmore has the best breakfast for its value in town, AND it opens at 5:30. Winner to me. pss: we will see how well all of you do being the lead anchor for the lead local station. oh right…you won’t be. ever.
