So, during the holiest season of the year, I return home to find a card in my mail wishing me a happy new year from one of the candidates running in the Federal election. I’m still processing the gesture, but it strikes me as shameless politicking and I’m a little freaked out that there’s a mailing list out there identifing us all by religion. Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate the holiday being recognized and think it’s great that our elected officials know who they represent, but this person has yet to win anything. Right now they’re just some stranger down the street! I’m really not comfortable with this scenerio and wondering just who can access what mailing lists for what purposes.

I’ll have a Happy New Year REGARDLESS!

  1. holiest season of the year???? Halloween??? some Jewish holiday???? what season are you referring to? It’s October 2….????

  2. Ummmm – It’s Yom Kippur next Thursday also it’s the Islamic holiday of Eid which marks the end of Ramadan. Remove head from ass please.

  3. To the OP… yes, indeed! And did you notice that for the municipal election, advance polls are on Shabbat & Sukkot (respectively); and Election Day itself is on Shabbat? Nice going… Nonetheless, l’shanah tovah tikatev v’taihatem!

  4. Oops – one more to the OP… are you on any AJC mailing lists? If you are, I’d say that’s how folks are getting your address… it seems to me that they share, without permission. 🙁

  5. Sorry, I’m Catholic. I have no idea what holidays you guys (and gals) are talking about. The holiest season of the year for me is Easter.

  6. yeah the hloiets season thing is very subjective and it is not unheard of for companies to send out Xmas cards this early…I know they sure as f*ck wish everyone a happy new year right up to March/April…..anything to sell their horseshit I guess

  7. i have a small IT comp in town but if you are moderately skilled pc wise, the internet is your oyster…my wife and I were discussing information security one night, and i told her what type of stuff was out there either unprotected or easily accessible. no way she says.had her pull up a chair, and inside ten minutes had her sister’s (whom works as a teacher in Vancouver) job performance assessment scores….nasty huh?happy whatever.
