Remarks: The collection bins are becoming a nightmare, says Warren, as they are increasingly the target of thieves. People back U-Hauls up to them, cut the locks, take anything of value and leave the rest scattered. Warren says the bins provide a service to those donors who don’t want to be seen exiting or can’t get to a retail outlet. She urges the public to call the police if they see anyone stealing from the bins.

Who’s Responsible?: Barb Warren, Salvation Army district manager, 453-2180.

Status: December 2008: Fixed The bins are no longer overflowing. Either Sally Ann staffers have got better at picking up charitable donations or Haligonians aren’t embracing the spirit of giving this year. Let’s hope for the former. Updated by Lizzy Hill
