Two summers ago I had a really great teen-movie weekend with a double-header of the disappointing-but-fun Lords of Dogtown and the heartfelt, terrifically acted The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants, starring two of my favourite TV transplants, Rory Gilmore (Alexis Bledel) and Joan Girardi (Amber Tamblyn, then and now the best young actress in America). Pants did OK, making $39 million on a $25 million budget, not exactly enough incentive for its producers to use their sequel option. But now that cast member America Ferrara is this year’s breakout star, they’ve fast-tracked Pants 2 for a June start date. Apparently America is annoyed about this, but we say SUCK IT UP BETTY. And here’s hoping for more Pants by Christmas! PS Dear Denise DiNovi, for the love of ears everywhere, get some good music instead of that sub-Chantal Kreviazuk crap you had in the first one. I’ve got lots of suggestions! Email me!
