Halifax and New Orleans are united in grief over the murder of Helen Hill early yesterday morning. When she and her husband Paul Gailiunas moved to Halifax in the ’90s, they touched people through their arts (she a filmmaker, he a musician), their generosity (she a teacher, he a doctor), their activism, their kindness. And they obviously did the same after they moved to New Orleans: News reports quote friends and neighbours there expressing the sense of loss we’re feeling. Apparently Helen and Paul were both shot by an intruder to their home; Paul is now in stable condition at the hospital, their 2-year-old son Francis was unharmed. In Thursday’s Coast we will talk more about Helen, and if you’d like to share any memories or feelings, please do. We’re compiling them here.
