Amen! We live in Clayton Park near the 102 and we refuse to take our car out on the weekends to shop in Bayers Lake because it’s worse than an episode of Canada’s worst drivers. People have really lost all common sense in their rush to be “first” (for what? I don’t know). I can barely get out of my own street (Fairfax) and onto Lacewood for cars blocking the intersection constantly and the left hand turn signals (flashing green lights) that were installed in that intersection are turned OFF on weekends!!! It’s organized insanity. In general I find drivers rude, obstructive, distracted, and even ruthless and most that fall into this category are 30 something women. This city is one dangerous place to drive in.
People have become entirely too self-centered where driving is concerned. There are far too many ignorant, inattentive and downright incompetent drivers. I’m tempted to call for mandatory testing every two years, but even if it were done, would the bad people just cure themselves of their terrible habits for an hour, then go right back to business as usual?/sigh
Why does it seem that everybody else is a bad driver except the complainers?You really sold your car because of how other people drive? Yeah right … what was the real reason?

LOL Tired. Mtl driving is a hoot. I grew up there and drove in that city for 10 yrs – 22 miles each way to work and home every day. They’re fast, but they are predictable drivers. You just “feel” what moves they’re going to make next so in a way, it’s safer than driving here because so many people do so many stupid spontaneous things while driving here. Not all, but enough to make it noteworthy. I must admit though that since I left Mtl. a dozen yrs. ago, I’ve lost the “nerve” to jolt downtown cruising at between 50 and 60 MILES per hr. in bumper-to-bumper traffic LOL. Another advantage Mtl. has over Hfx is city planning. The street designs are linear and thus predicable as well. No surprises there. There’s traffic light synchronization there as well. If you time it right, you can travel 15 miles on one boulevard and NEVER have to stop for a red light. The trick is stay at 30mph, 60mph, or 90mph. Nothing in between. Most do 60mph. If you haven’t got the guts for it, park the car outside of the city and take a bus/metro :P.
hey ‘bj’…I am glad to come across somebody who understands and appreciates the style, the flow actually and I couldn’t agree with you more…I personally find people here in the maritimes, dangerous and slow or slow and dangerous, depending on the day, they brake and then signal for fucks sake and I can go on and on and on but I would rather say to those of you that I had to beep at because you were meditating when it was time to move, don’t take it personally, just fucking drive, this isn’t life with the Beavers on a Sunday afternoon because it doesn’t take a can opener to open a can or worms here in this place, inferiority complexes run rampant unfortunately!hi-ho, it’s back to la belle province I go…beep beep, it’s me, watch out :DJust a girl
I have to agree with Tired of White Bread on the driving here in the Maritimes. People do drive fairly slow. You think Halifax is bad, try Newglasgow or Kentville….they might as well be riding donkees, they go so slow…no offence to them though, they take it down a notch with their day to day. However, as far as the “inferiority in the Maritimes”comments, I think you TOWB may be reflecting your own personal insecurities on us. I do remember you from the ” Bandana Rant” from last week.
