I agree, the bands aren’t the greatest, but these guys will probably never go any further than ‘the great big city’ of Halifax. I prefer a dj over bands anyday. You can’t dance to that music they play, it’s hard enough listening to it. Anyway, some people must think they are worth it as they keep getting booked to play at our clubs.Finally, what is worse than that is KARAOKE. What a waste of cover charge and a nite out. I avoid both of these so called ‘entertainment’ at the clubs.
Another huge problem with Halifax’s music scene right now is all of the wannabe-hardcore bands that the local high schools have been producing as of late. I step into the Pavillion to see a band and I have to wait through 2 or 3 acts riddled with nothing but side-sweep bangs and double lip rings. Is there a dress code that I missed out on perhaps?Clothing aside, Halifax music isn’t going too strong right now – while there are some good bands (Sharp Like Knives (www.myspace.com/sharplikeknives), Aide-De-Camp (www.myspace.com/aidedecamp), Bloodletter (www.myspace.com/bletter), Shelter With Thieves (www.myspace.com/shelterwiththieves) and others), there are some really bad bands out there.Not meant to plug, but hey, there is some good music on this rock.

Sharp Like Knives, Aide-De-Camp Shelter With Thieves, Bloodletter these are better examples of bands to avoid.All these ‘hipster’ indie bands should stay in art school and leave music to the professionals.Half of them can’t tune a guitar , keep a solid beat or have any talent whatsoever.Learn how to play ; then get jobs…and say no to d.j’s
To Stay In Art School – maybe your opinion would be valid if you have ever listened to any of the bands? Seriously, it just takes two seconds to copy&paste the URLs provided into your address bar.The Coast isn’t going to pick you up as a writer just because you’re ripping everything that people say as soon as they say it. Unless you’re gracing the pages of “Guitar World” or another music magazine, don’t start saying that people have talent.Point being: if you’re going to bash bands, have something to back it up with.DJs can do the trick too, don’t underestimate them, or is that all you can do?Sorry if I’m stepping on any toes here; not trying to use this as my own personal bitch forum, but sometimes you’ve got to correct those who are obviously talking out their asses.
please allow me to correct someone who is talking out their ass…I have had the ‘fortunate’ experience of hearing these bands and know some of them.Although I hav’nt graced the cover of music magazine’s ,I have been in a couple;distributed world wide.Just because someone wears a back-pack,is a vegatarian,and goes to art school,does not make them a musician.I personally don’t have a problem with the above mentioned bands,but alot of people would.Not meaning to bash them (there are much worse in the city ),however, they do not deserve the recognition they appear to be getting.I mean ,c’mon there are far more talented bands around here,possibly yours.You say your signing to a major label.And D.J.’s….seriously any monkey can do that.They just take away from bands that could be working in that club(not that this has happened before ,or continues to go on).If you are in a band – and you say you are – you enjoy having d.j.’s take away another show you could be doing ?Please.You would think that someone who is “signing to a major label” could understand that and be much more happy.Did you hear the bell ringing for class ?
